Description

Name: Evelyn Arlie

Born: January 1, 1845; Lyme Regis, United Kingdom

Died: April 24, 1944; Munich, Germany (age 99)

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Evelyn was born in the nice little cliffside town of Lyme Regis on the shores of the United Kingdom.  She was born to Dr. Victor Arlie, a respected paleontologist, and his wife Connie Bellamy, eldest daughter of the Canadian Assassins Aveza Deryn and Arnold Bellamy.  Paleontology became the family business very early on, with Evelyn’s parents being loving partners in their work, and Evelyn sprouting a love for the field when she found a fossilized ichthyosaur skull along the cliffs of Lyme Regis as a toddler.  She grew up with a desire to get her hands on as much education as she could absorb. She was tutored by her parents and supplied with all the books they could afford, and as such she grew into quite the eager young scientists that her parents were extremely proud of.  She was also raised to be an Assassin like her mother and grandparents, trained to defend the world from the Templars that wished to control it, and she made her family proud in this regard too.

By the time she was 18, she was making many scientific trips alongside her father across the continent and beyond.  In winter 1863, they travelled to Germany, where she was introduced to the famed scientists: Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope.  The three became close acquaintances, and a relationship even blossomed between young Evelyn and Cope. However, differences in personality and aspirations led to the two splitting up shortly after, and it left a schism between them that would tragically never heal due to Cope’s stubbornness.  Later on, in 1870, Evelyn would find herself in Philadelphia, where she witnessed the infamous Elasmosaurus event that triggered the Bone Wars between Marsh and Cope, a conflict that would consume her life for the next few decades and cause her years of headaches as she continued her scientific and Assassin expeditions throughout the western American frontier.  Though she did manage to get a short break from the drama in 1885 when she travelled to Alaska in 1885 to uncover an interesting Paleo-Indian find.

Her misadventures with the Bone Wars came to an end in 1891, and she was able to move on to new missions and expeditions of her own.  In 1894, she travelled to the Dutch East Indies, and there she assisted the scientist Eugène Dubois smuggle himself and his famous Java Man finds out of the colonies with the help of Indonesian Assassin, Apsarini Rajawali.  After her return to the States, Evelyn and her husband had their daughter Winona that year. In 1903, Evelyn went to investigate reports of bizarre goings-on near the desert town of Ghost Ranch in the New Mexico Territory. There she uncovered the source of the mysterious monster reports and the truth behind the conspiracy surrounding the Archuleta Brothers.

In 1911, Evelyn accompanied German paleontologist Ernst Stromer on his expedition to Egypt.  There, she came across some of the same First Civilization technology that she had encountered in Ghost Ranch, leading to her having to stop a Templar plot surrounding it.  The remains of Spinosaurus were uncovered around that time, and the bones were shipped to Munich for study. Later, in the 1920s, Evelyn and her daughter accompanied Dr. Roy Chapman Andrews on his expeditions to Mongolia, where many famous dinosaur discoveries, such as Velociraptor, were made.  Even as old age tried to wear down on her, Evelyn’s spirit and love of discovery kept her as active as she could physically be. Her last hurrah was in 1944, during World War II. Ernst Stromer had contacted Evelyn again, informing her that the Nazis were holding his extremely valuable Spinosaurus fossils from 1912 hostage in the Paleontological Museum in Munich.  Knowing an Allied airstrike was on it's way, Stromer begged Evelyn to help him smuggle out the fossils and escape the Nazi regime. Unfortunately, the Assassins arrived a little too late. Evelyn did her best to save the bones, but tragically died in the museum when the Allied bombs annihilated the building along with everything and anyone inside. Her body was later recovered by her daughter and taken to her birthplace at Lyme Regis to be buried properly.

Decades later, in 2016, Evelyn’s genetic memories would be relived via the Animus by her descendant, Ava Arlie.
