Description

Name: Arnaud Alexandre

Born: January 28, 1895; Paris, France

Died: May 10, 1960; Paris, France (age 65)

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Arnaud was born to a family of respected French Assassins in 1895, and as such was raised in their traditions and morals.  He trained in swordsmanship, marksmithing, and other important skills in between his philosophy lessons.  By age 16, he had already earned his father's blue and red Assassin robes, which he wore proudly.  Around that time he also met a charming young woman named Fleur Cadeau.  The two would soon become best friends, lovers, and eventually spouses by 1914.  They planned to spend the rest of their lives together, but an erupting conflict would soon rip them apart.  On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in Sarajevo by a Serbian terrorist named Gavrilo Princip.  Over the next few months, a domino effect rippled across Europe as a result.  Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, leading to Russia (Serbia's ally) to mobilize their own troops in preparation for war.  Germany warned Russia not to mobilize but they were ignored and so Germany declared war on Russia.  France, Russia's ally, began to mobilize their troops against Germany, who in turn declared war on France.  Germany made plans to invade France through Belgium, thus leading to Britain declaring war on Germany.  Europe was completely at war, and the Assassins realized they had to send out their agents to stop both the conflict, and any Templars influencing it.

Arnaud volunteered to join the French army out on the field, promising his wife that he would write often and come home to her as soon as possible.  He set out with a rifle, his father's robes, and a photo of Fleur that never left his person.  His first fight was in Belgium, at the Battle of Liège, and he was almost torn apart.  His bright blue robes made him a walking target, his outdated tactics proved worthless against the German lines of guns, and he only barely escaped with his life.  He was forced to ditch his father's now-tathered robes and replace them with a more standard army green Assassin outfit, much to his dismay.  He later fought at the Battle of the Frontiers, and when the Germans began their advance on Paris in September, Arnaud rushed to the Battle of the Marne to stop them and save his home.  After that, Arnaud found himself in the depressing reality of trench warfare when he arrived in Ypres not long after.  Saddened and morally beaten down, Arnaud finally got a break from the chaos on Christmas Eve 1914, when in the middle of the night the two sides began to sing Christmas carols from their trenches.  Soldiers from both sides bravely stepped out into no man's land in the morning, the spirit of the holiday inspiring a want for peace, and for that one beautiful day, the fighting came to a pause and enemies became brothers.  They shared stories and presents and food all in the name of goodwill towards humanity.  Arnaud himself ended up meeting a hearty German Assassin named Erich Krieger, who offered to join Arnaud in his adventure to stop the Templars.  The two quickly became best friends, and once the truce was over and the guns started firing again, they continued on their own path together.

Arnaud and Erich participated in the Battle of Neuve-Chapelle, uncovered a plot involving the sinking of the American ship Lusitania, and eventually found themselves at the Second Battle of Ypres, where a devastating new weapon was being unleashed by the Germans: chlorine gas.  Arnaud and Erich were separated and nearly lost their lives.  Arnaud lost consciousness, only to be awoken by the healing touch of a Belgian nurse named Ange Sauveur.  Arnaud immediately demanded to know where his friend was, and she explained that she saw a man that matched the description being captured by the Germans.  Arnaud set aside his other goals, determined to save his friend from the enemy.  Ange offered to join him, and so the two set out to rescue the lost Assassin, which they eventually did at the Battle of Verdun in 1916.  The team of three, reunited, continued their quest to stop the Templars, a quest which took them to the Battle of Jutland and the Battle of the Somme.  At the beginning of 1917, the three discovered a plot by the German Templars to attack the United States by asking Mexico to invade on their behalf.  The Assassins discovered this when they helped the British intercept the famed Zimmerman telegram, and they travelled across the ocean to inform the Americans of this.  The US went to war with Germany not long after this news, and they sent troops over to assist Britain, France, and their allies.

In the final phases of the war, Arnaud and his friends found themselves participating in the Nivelle Offensive, the Second Battle of the Marne, the Battle of Saint-Mihiel, and finally the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in 1918.  It was during that last battle that they confronted the Templar Grand Master, a tough and bitter soldier stuck in the traditional ways of war.  After a long and bloody fight, the Grand Master fell, but Arnaud chose to spare him, knowing that humiliation would be a fate worse than death for his foe.  The Templars kicked the Grand Master out of the Order for his lack of success, thus adding salt to the wound.  The Great War itself came to an end when Germany agreed to an armistice on November 11, 1918.  The Treaty of Versailles would be signed the next year, officially ending the war and placing the blame on Germany, sending the country into a Great Depression and setting the stage for the rise of Adolf Hitler and thus World War 2.

Arnaud himself set down his weapons after the war and returned home to France, mentally and physically scarred from the chaos.  He showed up on Fleur’s doorstep, and the two shared a long, tearful hug.  It was that moment that saved Arnaud from gaining membership in the so-called “lost generation”.  In that moment, he reflected on the past 4 years, on his friends—whom he made sure to keep in close contact with—and his family here at home.  Even when the world was at war and ripping itself apart, he still found people from across the continent that loved him like a brother, who took him in and inspired him to carry on in the worst of times.  He had family, and when he realized that, he certainly didn't feel lost.  Arnaud and Fleur would later have a daughter in 1923, and they named her Alouette.  They raised her as an Assassin and showed her the same love that Arnaud’s parents had showed him.  A decade later in 1933, they happened across a young German Jewish boy named Adler Nesher, who had been orphaned by the Nazi soldiers when he and his mother tried to escape over the French border.  The Alexandres took him in and raised him as their own.  The boy and Alouette became best friends, and eventually lovers.

In September 1939, Alouette left France for Poland on Assassin business, just as Hitler's army marched in and invaded.  Alouette disappeared, prompting Adler, who had no knowledge of the Assassins and Templars, to pick up a gun and sneak into Poland to find her.  This began his own path into the Brotherhood, though unbeknownst to him Alouette had already escaped and fled back to France, where she assisted her parents in leading the French Resistance against the Nazis who had taken over.  Adler and Alouette would eventually meet up again when the former arrived in France in 1944, and they continued their efforts to liberate Paris and stop the Templars.  Adler helped the Allies storm the beaches of Normandy and kick the Nazis out of France for good.  Arnaud stayed behind as his daughter and adoptive son set out to end the Axis for good, which they did in 1945.  After the war’s tragic end when the Templars had the United States annihilate two whole cities full of innocent Japanese citizens with their nuclear bombs, Alouette and Adler returned to France to help it rebuild.  They married in 1946, just before their son Efron was born.  They travelled around Britain, France, and Germany, while Arnaud mainly stayed home and helped things recover there.  He passed away peacefully in 1960, his family and friends by his side as he slipped into the next world.

He is the great-great grandfather of Ava Arlie.
