Description

Name: Lucifer

Born: c. 75215 BCE

Died: November 27, 75005 BCE; Asgard

Allegiance: None

Bio: Lucifer was the eldest son of a prominent isu philosopher, and in his youngest days, he was quite the child prodigy.  He was the head of his local choir, studied his father's teachings vehemently, and had every indication that he was going to be a successful young man.  However, his attitude started to sour as the years went by. One by one, his siblings came into the world. The stoic Michael, the heart-filled Gabriel, and dozens of other brothers and sisters who would all join the Circles of Angels, an isu organisation founded by their father to help spread his teachings and influence.  Lucifer didn't like being taken out of the center of attention, and he slowly began to act out and his personality left more and more to be desired. Instead of being the older brother that his siblings looked up to, Lucifer became the trouble-maker that no one wanted to be involved with. Still, Lucifer joined his younger brothers in the Archangel Garrison division, which had become so renowned that the isu king himself, Odin, hired the Garrison as his personal guard.  Though grant it, Lucifer often had to get put in much lower-rank situations in order to prevent him from making too much of a mess with his power.

However, not even that could stop him from his mission of making life worse for everyone.  Around 75010 BCE, Lucifer gave two human-isu hybrids named Eve and Adam an Apple of Eden, hoping that giving them sentience and breaking them out of slavery would cause a bit of chaos and destruction.  This would eventually culminate in the Human-Isu War and the creation of the Assassin Brotherhood, led by Eve as the first Mentor. Lucifer’s younger brother Gabriel approached the Assassins offering to join them, as he was always abhorred by the unequal treatment that his own species put upon the humans.  Gabriel was able to supply isu technology in mass to the humans, causing the entire war to truly go into full chaos. Lucifer never took one side or the other, though he played it off to both the isu and the humans that he was totally on their side when they approached him. Meanwhile, he lurked behind the scenes in the isu’s prison dimension, Tartarus, crafting his most diabolical plan to date: using his transdimensional technology to destroy the universe in an epic climax to his quest to be the most evil being in existence and spit in his father's memory in the worst way possible.  However, his plot was discovered by Eve and Gabriel, who put a stop to his first attempt and later teamed up with Michael and Odin to kill Lucifer in battle.

The human-isu war continued onwards for the next few years, and the fighting was only stopped in 75000 BCE when an enormous solar flare hit the Earth and nearly destroyed civilization itself.  This solar flare was triggered by Eve, who realized the only way to save the world was to end it and force the two sides to make peace in order to survive. Right as she triggered the Toba Catastrophe however, a hologram of Lucifer appeared to mock her and vow that he would return and finish what he started.  After leaving the temple, Eve rushed back to Adam and Gabriel and thought about their plans to rebuild, and their plans to prevent Lucifer from destroying reality in the future. They looked into dozens of future timelines and discovered one in which a young girl named Ava Arlie would find Gabriel's Armor in the year 2016 and use it to defeat Lucifer for good.  And so the Assassins worked to make sure that was the timeline that occurred.

The isu and humans decided to make peace in the wake of this near-extinction, and instead began to work together to rebuild under the Assassins’ principles.  Though this world peace would be shattered years later when Eve’s rogue son Cain killed his brother Abel in order to steal the Apple of Eden for himself and found the Templar Order, thus starting another War that would go on for millennia.

Lucifer himself lurked throughout the digital network that he had build to store his consciousness, laced throughout various isu temples across the globe.  Over the millennia, he would use this reach to cause mayhem and destruction across the human history, interacting with many different figures and manipulating them as he pleased.  He became a prominent figure in the Abrahamic religions, coming to be known by many different names including Satan, Iblis, and even simply the Devil.

In 1883, his consciousness was finally released from his digital prison.  A Dutch Templar named Huibert Boumeester used an artifact known as the Pick of Eden to free Lucifer at the Krakatoa temple, thinking the Devil would become his servent in exchange.  Lucifer, being Lucifer, went back on this deal the second he was released and instead possessed Boumeester’s body, giving him a vessel with which to roam the world. Lucifer promptly detonated the temple, triggering the famous eruption that was heard across the Dutch East Indies and beyond.  Years later he'd travel to the Netherlands, where his vessel was killed by the Indonesian Assassin, Apsarini Rajawali, in 1894, mere seconds after Lucifer transferred bodies and fled the scene. Apsarini, upon discovering that the Pick of Eden was the key to accessing Tartarus, realized that she had to hide it away from Lucifer.  And so when she returned to her homeland, she hid the Pick in an ancient Hindu temple. Lucifer would later make an attempt to reclaim the Pick, mounting a military operation to take it back later in 1894. He was thwarted by Apsarini and a British Assassin named Evelyn Arlie, however, and Evelyn promptly took the Pick with her back to England.

The Pick would eventually fall into the hands of the Beatles in the 1960s, who used it to spark their musical career.  Later on, it would fall into the hands of various other famous rock stars such as Eddie van Halen, Billy Joel, and other stars of the 1970s and 1980s.  It eventually ended up in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, where Lucifer, now infecting the body of a Templar named Cole Morgenster, tried to recover it in 1988.  He was thwarted by two teenage Assassins named Tim and Jen Spainhower, who defeated Lucifer in a rock off and used the Pick to send him flying. A British Assassin named Aren Nesher, Lucifer’s most recent arch nemesis, promptly arrived on the scene to retrieve the Pick and hide it away.  Throughout the 1990s, it became an endless cat and mouse game between Aren and his wife Kiki and their enemy Lucifer, each trying to keep the Pick out of each other's hands. Lucifer attacked Aren’s family during Abstergo's Great Purge in 2000, and killed him, leaving Kiki and their daughter Ava afraid and alone in shock.

Ava's memories of the Assassin-Templar War would be brainwashed out of her over the years, her mother not wanting her to have any involvement in the conflict that took everything away from her.  Nonetheless, Ava found herself thrust into the conflict yet again in 2015, joining the Assassins and eventually discovering a message from Gabriel telling her she needed to find his Armor and defeat Lucifer before he could destroy the universe.  After many trials and tribulations, Ava and her friends eventually made it to Gabriel’s Temple in summer 2016, ready, willing, and able to fight Lucifer as a team and save the world. Lucifer and his side kid Yolanda Sheol tried to brainwash one of the Assassin team, Dusk, to their side, but the team’s friendship proved too strong and Dusk used that drive to break free and escape, leaving Lucifer and Sheol to plan their attack on their own.

Never really liked the idea that the Devil was a real malevolent entity in the AC universe, given the emphasis on the good and bad of free will.

To me it makes for sense that AC's Lucifer was just another powerful Isu whose story like the others, was muddled over the millennia. Probably the influence for Loki and other trickster Gods, and who may not have helped the new Isu/Human Hybrid prototypes (thats my reasoning for Adam and Eves existence) gain the Apple to see what would happen.

Until somebody got the bright idea to say. "Oh I didn't do this -insert vile act here- on my own the Devil made me do it." and the whole story spiraled from their. Until he was utterly demonized by Legend so some people wouldn't have to take responsibility for their actions, and others could use as a cautionary tale to keep people good.

Still this is a sweet design. I like the Snake helmet.

I like to display the historical and mythological figures I use in my stories as close to their actual counterparts as possible in terms of personality and goals and such, with only the occasional tweak to fit the narrative.  To me, a true Lucifer cannot be redeemable.  He's the embodiment of all things evil, the antithesis of god and heaven itself, the master of destruction and manipulation.  His whole character is that he is the opposite of all things good.  Even if he's charming and does the occasional "good" thing for someone, it's always a part of his agenda somehow and in the end it always plays in to his plan to spread evil and sin across the world.

So that's why I didn't make him a proponent of the Templars or the Assassins.  He toys with them both in whatever way progresses his agenda to watch the world burn.  He's the ultimate extreme to counteract the teachings of his father and brothers.

And thanks Figured it fit the whole Genesis serpent image XD

The first game had the major revelation that the mythology Apple was just that. A myth, a story misinterpreted by people witnessing technology their history had forgot.
So I try to view other myths within the context of the games being the result of the same human error. Which like real legends have been retold and embellished by many cultures to suit the messages they wanted to tale at the time. Or just to make it more interesting. Only in AC there is a forgotten complex truth behind them all.

Though that is an interesting way to include them, just not one I'd go for.

Speaking of including myths into AC, one Idea I have is Lilith, the Mother of Monsters, is Juno. Who created machines  of war (possibly biological) so terrifying. That like the ideals of the Templars, and Assassins, have been seared into Humanity's communal memory as beasts.

(It's how I figure the two Brotherhoods popping up across the world independent of each other.)

Avapithecus In reply to avenger09 [2018-04-02 02:00:55 +0000 UTC]

That is true, but all the myths that the isu world became still had a basis The Apple held the key to untold knowledge and freewill.  Juno is an egotistical woman-child who thinks she's the queen of everything.  Cain killed his brother because his way of doing things was getting snubbed.  Etc etc.  I feel it's the same with all the other mythologies.  Sure there are twists and adaptations, but the same basic idea still applies.  Otherwise there's no real point storywise on basing the isu world on myths
Idk that's just my take on it XD

And that's an interesting theory, though I have a hard time seeing Juno having any relationship with Adam given her inherent specism(?).  Lilith in the mythology was Adam's first wife before Eve came along.

I do like the idea of isu robot monsters though.  There may or may not be something along those lines appearing in the next Project Thunderbird fanfic XD

avenger09 In reply to Avapithecus [2018-04-02 02:13:16 +0000 UTC]

Then she wasn't his first wife then. It was just an embellishment, a lie, or perhaps just a miscommunication.

I guess :V Again, I'm a strict follow the original mythology/history guy, so I guess I just have different trains of thought XD

avenger09 In reply to Avapithecus [2018-04-02 02:46:06 +0000 UTC]

I find it works best to simply use mythology as a guideline not a strict rule. As many myths are open to interpretation thus give more chances for interesting story's.

History I'm a little more strict on as they tend to have more actual substance and drama, and outright ignoring core facts is just horrendous in my view.
Like the full asshole makeover, they did on Caesar in Origins. They have outright speaking of disliking theater and poets when he was historically very cultured and appreciative of the arts.

-Tangent-
Makes me think they should go back to using historical figures sparingly like in the original. Richard the Lionheart for example was the only major one we saw, with Saladin merely referenced, and Richard was neither an enemy or a ally of either side. But a strong personality with his own goals, but still given a dignified portrayal. Like the targets we faced (minus Majd Addin) where given.

Now Unisoft seem overly zealous in dividing every historical figure between Assassins and Templars. Which I wouldn't mind, if they did it well. Taking into account a persons flaws and positives, and deciding which would fit where and sometime surprising us.
(Machiavelli for instance could easily have been a Templar, but they made him a pragmatic Assassin instead a very interesting choice. Caesar on the other hand shouting from the heavens how awesome Rome is. Not interesting.)

-End Tangent-

I guess I just expect better from the series. They did great with Desmond games, why not now?

Anyway I got the idea for Isu machine's being mythical monsters from Horizon Zero Dawn. Kind of...
There the Machines look like animals, thought the Humans in that game have lived with them long enough to know their aren't alive, unlike the Humans in AC would as they where all wiped out in the Solar storm.

Avapithecus In reply to avenger09 [2018-04-02 03:14:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I really don't like the way they handled the Rome stuff in Origins It felt so freaking rushed and unfaithful to the actual character of the historical figures.  Hell, the Brutus scrolls from Brotherhood did a better job at portraying it than Origins did XD I understand what they were trying to do but it really doesn't work here. It sounds like they wanted to make it out to be this ancient barbaric sense of pure dogmas and honor, good vs evil kind of thing.  But you can't really do that with this because it doesn't fit the narrative at all. Brutus just came off as some heartless asshole who had no problem stabbing his adoptive father who raised him. When in reality the whole event ripped Brutus apart inside, hence why he killed himself out of guilt two years later.  It felt like the whole scene was written by someone who just kinda vaguely knows about Roman history instead of actually studying it and knowing it well. What they should have done is give us the assassination of Cleopatra at the end instead of Caesar. I mean hell, you literally have the character that canonically killed her with a snake XD Why are you just shoving that into the comics?

Idk, I just feel like the historical stuff in Origins was way too rushed and crammed in at the last minute like “Oh yeah, we do history stuff too I forgot XD

Which sucks because the history was always a big part of AC for me :/ I liked how it made learning all these different events and people was made so fun by immersing you entirely in it.  That's one of many reasons why Syndicate annoys me so much. That game has practically zero educational value. It just uses Victorian London as a backdrop rather than actually using the setting to tell the story.  I didn't learn anything about the time period by playing it.
