Description Private investigator Rhett Fievel is a grizzled old bastard, and the protagonist of my novel's B plot. Once a cop on the straight and narrow with Eagle Crest's police force, the system failed both him and his city one too many times. Deciding he could do more good as a private detective, he turned in his badge and started his own firm to help his fellow man in a city riddled with corruption and violence. And maybe, just maybe, he'll pick up the cold trail of the very case that sent him down the path of distrusting the police and their relationship with the gangs in the first place. But that's an old scar that a hardened detective with a tragic past like himself just can't bear to pick at~

Fievel's like the Batman of my universe. If Batman lived paycheck to paycheck, and had less gadgets, and worked out of a mildew-ridden single room office, and didn't wear a bat costume… Okay maybe he's nothing like Batman beyond the job description. But he's the best cliche in the business. The police may not always agree with his methods but dammit he gets results! And he doesn't take any bribes from no dirty crooks. He strikes from the shadows, and takes the law into his own hands for his city and his people. Unlike Batman, he doesn't go down into the slums and beat up poor people until they fall unconscious. He prefers a more subtle approach, relying on his custom taser, which can be used in melee and ranged modes, to incapacitate bad guys and get in, get the evidence he needs, and get out undetected.

Design notes, I did really lean hard into the cliche of the old grizzled private eye bad cop sort of caricature. That's what he's unapologetically meant to be, so that's how I designed him. But I like my characters to have more than just any old coat and button up shirt you can get at the shop down the street. It gives them more memorable compositions when their outfits experiment a bit with the basic silhouette. In Fievel's case, I admittedly took a lot of inspiration from Otso Berg and Aiden Pearce. I particularly like the idea of a sweater as a hardy but formal alternative of the common dress shirt. I actually do own a jacket similar to the one drawn here, so I took notes from my own wardrobe on that one. I wanted to add some tactical elements to him as well, so in place of a waistcoat I gave him a short but sleek bulletproof vest. Looks appropriate whether in a meeting with a client or caught in a firefight, win win. His boots you can see also have a sort of metal greave layer under the leather straps. Doesn't come across perfectly in the lineart but it has this sort of dimple texture to it that I've seen on some sportswear and medical braces. I have no idea if that provides any real tactical or support advantage in real life but it sure as hell looks cool and really that's all that matters.

His taser was the biggest pain in the ass to design, because I already struggle with guns for some reason. Idk they have such a specific shape designed for specific ergonomics that if you offset even a little just kinda looks odd on paper. I am however actually quite happy with how it turned out on this one. I couldn't tell you what the specific models of the guns I found in reference images for the handle were, but I like the final composition. As for the actual "gun" part of the taser gun, I tried to go with something that basically looks like a mini railgun XD It can deliver a shock on its own, or fire small electrodes over longer distances. Mostly modern with a sci-fi tilt, just like Eagle Crest as a whole, really.
