Intewresting. But i find easier to write plot driven stories than character driven stories, for this now i'm praticin at writing character driven stories (and usually i like character driven stories)

Well, everyone has a different method. I prefer characters because they can drive the plot on their own. You have to know the basics of both before you can write a full story, but you'll be able to better construct your plot if you have an accurate understanding of your characters.

rawr! the part about writing scenes according to your mood is super-helpful, indeed! as simple as it sounds, i never really thought of it like that before :0
thanks again! <3<3<3

I like this!! I'm working on an original comic book/manga and reading this helps me get on a straight road. Some of the advise you suggested, like write what your mood dictates, or your inspirations from part 1 (mainly #1 and #4) I actually do, for real, while the rest I agree with.

Okay, now I really want to read that story you kept using as an example.

Tell me it's been written down somewhere.

Oh yeah, and this was pretty helpful. In the "I probably already knew this, but it's easier to use seeing it written down" sort of way. Thanks.

avaunt In reply to japan-air [2008-11-18 06:20:51 +0000 UTC]

xD I haven't written it down anywhere. Maybe some time in the future. I don't know. I'm able to invent random ideas off the top of my head, this one didn't appeal to me as much, since I'm more into fantasy/psychological stuff. Some time in the future I might sit down and develop it, but I currently have about 5 that I'm working on separately that are in different stages of development and that I like better.

Of course. I'm glad it was helpful!

I just have to have patience to actually do it. I most of the time have the picture in my head but I have to write the dialect, and figure out the parts I don't know already........and that takes me awhile.

Yeah, it's basically used in those 'do it yourself' books, where it tells you what happens to you and then dictates a page for you to go to. And I'm sure she knows exactly what Erotica is from experience. AHAHAHA just kidding.

Oh, oh, I know this one!

Second person is "You are, you do, you go", in instead of "They are, they do, they go" for Third person or "I am, I do, I go" for first. There's only two places I've ever seen Second person used are in self insert fanfics (which 99.99999% of the time are crap) or Erotica.

Kindernacht [2007-08-10 07:25:51 +0000 UTC]

First person, I've found, actually isn't that much more interesting. I personally in my writings go more for a third person omniscient because it lets me show more than one character's thoughts, and I don't end up with anything too centered around a singular character. In the past, I've written up first, second, and third person stories, and third was definitely easiest for me. Where I could write a 50,000 word story in third person, first person brought me to a screeching halt only freshly into the story. Second person... we won't even get into that one. Got tips on 1st and 2nd?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

avaunt In reply to Kindernacht [2007-08-10 07:38:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, I write first person when doing a comic, third person when writing something else. First person can be a lot more fun for me, I've found, but I think it really just depends on the person.
OMFG, I hate 2nd person, but if somebody wants to write it, good luck. I basically mentioned it to be fair.

Well, for first person, it's all about the character and being able to communicate their change. Third person tends to be kind of distanced from the story, while first person is deeply connected to the story. You have to be able to tell the story from the point of view of the person you're writing. If you can't do that, you can't enjoy writing it.
I mean, I'm not entirely sure what to give tips on. <<;

Kindernacht In reply to avaunt [2007-08-10 16:30:32 +0000 UTC]

Ahaha, well, I can write from the point of view of the person who's narrating, I don't have that much trouble with that, but it just doesn't go too terribly well with my style of writing and tends to get boring rather quickly. But like I said, third person omniscient. I can still use all my greatly loved third person things, but I can also get into what characters are thinking.

Agreed on the second person thing though. It does suck.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

avaunt In reply to Kindernacht [2007-08-10 22:44:34 +0000 UTC]

I don't doubt you. >3 It's really dependent on how you write. When I wrote more plot driven intense stories, I wrote third person. It's easier a lot of the time. I write first person in my comics, but I also cut out and will do third person bits. It depends on what you want to do with your story, I guess. First person is better for mysteries, I think, but third person is fantastic for adventure stories and dramas.

Yeah . . . I haven't ever read an interesting second-person story. They blow.

Kindernacht In reply to avaunt [2007-08-10 23:35:05 +0000 UTC]

I'm all for drama ;D

I've never read very long second-person stories that were any good, that's for sure. I've seen some decent passages here or there, though, written like that.

avaunt In reply to Kindernacht [2007-08-11 01:09:35 +0000 UTC]

>3 Ooooooh . . . drama!

Yeah . . . occasionally I've come across good bits . . . but I can't stand second-person, really. It's just . . . annoying. xD Especially when it tells you you're doing things that you'd NEVER do. xDD
