Nope, not gonna happen. How so? Two words:Β General. Audience.Β From a fan's point of view, I can understand wanting to see MechaGodzilla, Anguirus, Biollante, Destoroyah, and the rest of Toho's kaiju gallery onscreen, but we need to consider the general audience for a second here: the MonsterVerse's tone is already established as grounded, realistic and believable, so adding MechaGodzilla into the mix is already an alienating idea for them, and you don't want to do anything that would risk scaring away the bigger audience that puts the money in the pocket. That's just how it is. The reality is that no matter how big a fanbase is, we're small potatoes compared to the GA, so our support isn't enough. But hey, don't take my word for it, watch this video from someone who also understands this subject.Β youtu.be/QQmqcuKNQrE

The only reason why the MonsterVerse is successful to begin with is because they're designed to appeal to said audience, which is a good thing because it has something everyone can love, enjoy, and appreciate, and it gains a bigger number of people who are being introduced to the source material with welcoming, open arms.

"Grounded, realistic, and believable" You do know King of the Monsters is going to have him fighting a three-headed dragon, right?

No, I think the issues is one of marketability, they're going to play it safe with Godzilla's most iconic foes first, so now that Godzilla's established, NOW he'll be fighting Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah, and then in the next one, King Kong.

"You do know King of the Monsters is going to have him fighting a three-headed dragon, right?" And how do you think they're marketing King Ghidorah, genius? Within a grounded and realistic tone that makes it feel believable and appealing to general audiences.Β youtu.be/NXdqIQZ8FdU Nothing feels alien or something so far fetched that they'll think it's stupid, so far what we get from it is that an unknown creature is discovered frozen alive in Antarctica, and the only footnote to go on is "The Devil has three heads".

You wanna know how Pacific Rim gets away with its premise? Because the overall tone of it is heavily influenced by anime, everything in that world has an anime feel to it, so making jaegers is not far of a stretch. You know how "Ready Player One" got away with MechaGodzilla? Same thing: THE PREMISE. The OASIS is a virtual world where every video game, movie, TV show, comic, and all that is from pop culture exists in this VR world, so the general audience has an easier time getting into MechaGodzilla because of it. In contrast to the MonsterVerse, where everything in that world is kept in a grounded and realistic tone, so adding MechaGodzilla into the mix is nigh impossible. And guess what, you CAN make a world inhabited by kaiju feel grounded and realistic in tone, so don't come with me with any excuse.Β Come back to me when you stop looking at this from a fan's perspective and start putting yourself from a general audience's POV.Β

See, you say that, and yet, the last movie in this series had a giant monkey punching helicopters. Totally grounded. Not at all cartoonish.

If you spend all day shuffling words around like that, you can make anything can sound cartoonish, so you've already made a weak argument because of that. In case this is all new to you, kaiju vs military fights have been a thing in kaiju movies since the beginning of the genre.

Come back to me when you have a legitimate argument and not try to make anything sound cartoonish, but until then MechaGodzilla doesn't work in the MonsterVerse.

I'm saying it doesn't really mesh with the tone you're arguing the Monsterverse is going for.

See, your problem is that you're focusing in the wrong place. What makes the MonsterVerse realistic in tone is not what's IN that world, but it's HOW that world is built up, it's the lore. What we have there is that a secret scientific organization dubbed Monarch explores the far corners of the world searching and discovering an ancient ecosystem far beyond anything we've ever known, at no point has that ever gone so sci-fi territory like some of the Toho movies have been and has kept that world's tone grounded in reality. Don't believe me? Then check out some of these Monarch files.Β

You mean like EVERYBODY does on the internet? What else is new? Funny how you don't like the sight of two people arguing yet, ironically, here you are arguing with someone, putting yourself in the same position you dislike other people being at. It takes two to play this game, and you have the option to leave. The only thing I've done is point out objective facts on why MechaGodzilla's inclusion to the MonsterVerse is not going to happen and that these movies are designed to appeal to the general audience more than fans only, and the insistent fans can't seem to accept that. I'm a huge fan like any other, but like I've said in this *link's description, at this point I don't even care where MechaGodzilla appears in just as long I get to see what a Hollywood version of MechaGodzilla looks like at all, and I finally got my fix.

It's a shame we'll never see this version of MG in a Godzilla movie. I like the design. In fact he looks like he's a perfect match for Legendary Godzilla.

From a fan's perspective, I get it, but I think it's better if he isn't. The MonsterVerse movies are designed in a way that, while fans can love and appreciate, they can be appealing to general audiences, and with the MV's grounded and realistic tone already established, adding MechaGodzilla is just gonna alienate the GA just for the sake of making a small number of fans happy. Besides, I don't think it matters at this point, I know a lot of people including myself wanted to see what a Hollywood version of MechaGodzilla would look like and I'm personally satisfied to see the robot adapted in a movie, and Ready Player One seems like the only perfect place MG could easily be adapted in and the general audience would buy it just fine.

Thing that kinda disappointed me about MG in Ready Player One was that he didn't use any other weapons or abilities aside from the flamethrower in his mouth. I mean the giant mecha has always been a walking arsenal. Oh well. It was still awesome to him thrash with the Iron Giant and a Gundam. Wished that they brought Big G himself in that moment to fight him then things would've definitely got more interesting.

Goji1327 In reply to predatorvader [2018-07-17 20:32:41 +0000 UTC]

That would be awesome if Godzilla stepped in the fight. Imagine if Gundam and Iron Giant are getting their asses kicked by MechaGodzilla and Godzilla shows up and throws MechaGodzilla into the ground with a single punch. MechaGodzilla gets up to see Godzilla taunting the mech with a smug expression while saying

β€œMiss me, asshole?”

He used his finger missiles but the Iron Giant stopped him before he could. Actually, MG did fire them, but they were flying all over the place. Still, MechaGodzilla was a powerhouse in the four minutes he was onscreen.Β  Some people say "he's weak" and I'm like "Neither the Giant nor Gundam were able to take down MechaGodzilla, who in turn was kicking their shiny, metal asses and throwing them all over the place like rag dolls", just because they made the character simpler and not OP doesn't mean he's weak.
