Description
Having been defeated, the villainous Beholder is more determined than ever to subject the world to his madness. To spread his reality warping insanity, he plans to unleash massive storms worldwide, infusing them with his twisted power. To do this first he must summon the most powerful weather controllers he can find into the ether and overwhelm them, transforming them into the harbingers of his lunatic designs.**This is the first in a series of splash pages that outline a story that crosses over my world with a roster of heroes loaned out to me by some very generous creators.**
Thunder Lord created by and copyright of Eric N. Bennett.

This image is just begging for a caption that says "I see dead people!".

Only none of them died, they were corrupted into being pawns of the Beholder.

Thanks! At the time of this comment, I'm three pages in and who knows how many to go. Lots of creators trusted me with their characters for this, so I hope I do them all proud.

Hm, was expecting Thunder Woman to get corrupted, what with being a weather controller herself. However, means she could be very valuable in terms of helping to counter the powers of the corrupted weather controllers here.

Actually I don't know why, but I thought Thunder Woman threw lightning, but wasn't a total weather controller. That qualifies as a plot error on my part. Dagnabbit!

Better reread her bio then, lol: bsdigitalq.deviantart.com/art/…
Or you could take this as an opportunity. Maybe it was an error on the Beholder's part that he didn't nab TW, and that error could come to bite him in the eyeballs.

Well, I'm going to have to go with option 2 at this point, but the error does give me an idea for another potential scene. I have to be careful not to drag this series out too long. Operation Krakatoa was composed of 9 interrelated splash pages (10 if you count the image of Battering Ram attacking Krakatoa) and that worked perfectly for that series. I imagine this series will be a little longer, but not much since I'm less concerned with individual character fights. Almost every page will feature multiple characters.

Neat! Glad to have contributed something here. Making lemonade from lemons and all that.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to be a perfectionist, I'm not really built for it. I learned a long time ago I've just got to roll with the punches and adapt.

Indeed.
Still, probably wouldn't hurt to do a quick refresher on TW there.

Yeah, Reddo's right. If the last batch is anything to go by, you may be the only one unconvinced...

Yeah...I'm my own worst critic about these things. Not every character can be equally important to the story and I get a bit concerned about giving someone the short shrift. Fortunately, the side villains ought to help provide some of the less central characters some time in the spotlight.

Well...ONE of the heroes involved in this, Thunder Woman, has seen this kind of physical metamorphosis before. She wasn't the one who took down Terra Cotta during "Operation Krakatoa" but she was there for it.
And this particular problem is where a couple of the less obviously powerful characters involved really get to strut their stuff.
And that's all I can really say about that until the third or fourth pic in the series.

Let's just say Thunder Lord's newly acquired skin condition gives some other heroes a chance to shine, before he gets his chance at some payback.

Awesome. I know he's in good hands.
EDIT: Also, I know it's a coloring error, but it turns out I like the blue cape on him better than the red. Keep it that way. I'll make it an official change.

D'oh! I swear, if I get through a pic without some sort of egregious error it's a miracle.
Thanks for covering me on this on though.

UrsaMagnus In reply to AWRowland [2016-04-07 20:52:36 +0000 UTC]
Not a problem. Truthfully, the blue cape does look better especially against his red hair. Also, it serves to differentiate him a bit more from Thor. Whom he probably resembles too much already anyway.

Eh...at least he isn't toting around a Hammer...though, if he was possessed by Donar, Thunor or Perun, he'd still be a hammer toting Thunder God.
Heck, if he was possessed by the Chinese god Lei Kung, he'd be a hammer toting thunder god (with the addition of a cloud chariot and drums).
So, the lack of a hammer sets him apart from 5 mythical thunder gods (though the argument can be made that Thor, Donar, Thunor and Perun are all the same guy). Now, costume-wise...yeah, dropping the red cape helps diminish the resemblance to Marvel's Thor. Absolutely.

I've changed his boots many, MANY times. And truthfully, I'm still not thrilled. But they are what they are. The rest of the costume design I dig. Just the boots I'm less than thrilled with. But that's not an issue for you in this instance.

AWRowland In reply to UrsaMagnus [2016-04-08 00:34:01 +0000 UTC]
Well, the angle kept me from having to be too exact with the boots. I swear though, I'm going to have to start doing reference illustrations if I do many more of these types of things. Over the two projects so far, I've made errors on Thunder Lord, Starchild, Thunder Woman and Midnight Owl. My memory for character design is obviously, not perfect. Now, I don't go around flogging myself over these things, but I do keep track of them in an effort to avoid making the same mistake a second time.

It's all good. I'm pretty certain we're all just thankful you want to use our characters. With the added bonus of them looking good in fun stories, to boot.

AWRowland In reply to UrsaMagnus [2016-04-08 03:41:08 +0000 UTC]
You're probably correct, but there's a lot of moving parts here, including a heap of characters I'm only nominally familiar with and when it comes to drawing characters I didn't design, I'm not in George Perez's class. Heck, usually I'm doing good to be in Sal Buscema's class and some days I'm not even in Rob Liefeld's class and that's just sad really, considering he can't draw feet.
Combine that with forgetting Thunder Woman's powers (thus creating an error on the very first page) among other plotting errors and I feel that after this series of pics, I'm going to have to restrict myself to working solo or with one or two collaborators at most. If nothing else that should decrease the number of plot and/or illustration errors.

Thunder Lord is the character in the top right, "farthest" (as far as perspective goes) from the front. There will be a better image of him in about two pages. Next page focuses on some other characters.
