Description Sharon Lightfeather Coan is not what anyone really pictures when they picture a super-human. Carrying a few extra pounds, of average looks and soft-spoken, this Navajo Tribal Police Officer is easily overlooked. However appearances can be deceiving. Officer Lightfeather is one of the most powerful 'Crashers known, which is fortunate for her as she is faced with one of the most difficult tasks imaginable...keeping peace between the ever expanding population of Gatecrashers on the Navajo Reservation and the US Federal Government and this is above and beyond enforcing tribal law.

Sharon Lightfeather Coan, also called Spirit Guardian has the ability to project nearly impenetrable force fields. Her fields which can be projected at distance and manipulated in size and shape can withstand the impact of a fully loaded speeding semi-truck weighing upward of 80,000lbs. Because of this, she rarely carries any sort of firearm on the job.

Metaview: In many countries, the US included the incidence of "Crashing is higher among oppressed or persecuted indigenous peoples. Of course, since their numbers are much smaller in general, they still do not have numbers that exceed the super-humans in the general population. As of yet, the exact scientific reason for this higher incidence is unknown, but it is a fact and in more war torn societies this is having a measurable effect on how the countries' social structures are stratified.

In the US, the Navajo Tribal Government has offered sanctuary on the reservation to any 'Crasher who wants it. The problem with this is twofold; first, many of the Crashers requesting sanctuary are wanted for criminal acts outside the reservation, leading to tense confrontations between tribal authorities and federal agents. Second, just because they've asked for sanctuary doesn't mean they are any less inclined to commit crimes on the reservation.

This is an excellent bit of world-building. A character that could be a real person instead of a caricature, and the political implications of the situation. Coan's 'hero name' seems a bit unwieldy, but otherwise this is a great idea.

Well, my thoughts on her codename are this...she didn't create it and doesn't use it. She had it "bestowed" on her by tribal lawyers and public relations people, so an introduction to her probably goes a little like this:

"Hi, I'm Officer Coan."

"Oh...the Spirit Guardian."

"Please call me Officer Coan."

I am becoming more and more fond of this character. Named by lawyers and PR is a riot.

I envision her as an ordinary cop (drinks too much coffee, wishes she could spend more time with her dog, would really, really like to vacation in Hawai'i, but has neither the time nor the money for it), trying to persevere and do her job under extraordinary circumstances.
