Description Another oldie but goodie, The Human Shield. This character underwent at least one redesign, but his 1990 version is all I could find.

A Buddy of mine thinks he has the artwork and is looking into scanning it and sending it to me, so that may happen.

Well, the design has already been featured in an old pic I posted awhile back.

Third from the right. I even swiped the helmet design when I redesigned Castellan (a character for whom all the early designs are lost).

Heh- interesting look. Sorta reminds me of Marvel's Blue Shield, but with a blanked-out look.

Nothing I can do about that. The two costumes aren't that close in design or color scheme, so except for sharing the name "shield" they're less similar than...say...Captain America and Guardian.

Maybe I'm thinking of another guy- I though I remembered Blue Shield having one of those kinds of shirts. Was there another '70s hero who had a look like that?

PS Guardian is totally a Cap knock-off .

Well The Blue Shield has two designs...one kind of looks like Captain America and the other layers some armor over his blue bodysuit...which seems redundant on a force field guy. As for another 70's hero having a similar look...I don't recall, but it's possible, a lot of one-and-done characters were designed in the 70's. Hell, it's possible I even did it on purpose...it was almost 30 years ago...I've got no idea what was on my mind during the design process.

And I know Guardian is a Cap knock-off. Simon and Kirby designed him after they left Timely the first time.

ah, you're not the one who was denying it. That must have been Ken. He was REALLY annoyed when Guardian got stuck with the "Cap Knock-Off" label. I tried telling him that if you leave one book and then design a hero with the SAME ATTRIBUTES in another, he's gonna get stuck with that label, but he's grouchy about it .

You know Simon and Kirby were carrying a grudge because when Guardian is picking out his shield, he tests it by destroying one that looks like Cap's. If that doesn't scream "I did this just to spite you", nothing does.
