Description
July/November 2012Inspired by an outdated idea of Triton. This is a vintage Triton with an atmosphere which has 30% of the density of the Earth's.

There are some interesting imagines in your works, but I like this most. I like the atmosphere of this planet you created!

Well, that was my first glimpse ^^ Anyway, I love your style; can I ask which technique(s) you use?

Sure you can. I use acrylics on Crescent ilustration board.
Actually, it's quite simple: I first draw everything on pencil, then I just paint it. There are many forms that I use to add the paint: Simple brush strokes, watered down paint, a toothbrush to add that grainy texture, soft transitions for the sky, drybrushing... stuff like that. The planets (Like that Neptune) are created with a modified compass that I designed and using a secret tool I call "Cruz de navajas" ("Knives' cross").
I like to keep the things simple.
But, you know? The hardest part of a painting is all the things you have to do before starting to paint. Sometimes, when I'm just starting a painting, I feel like it's the beginning of the end of the project, the last phase of the procedure.

Thank you very much
I'm very flattered by you comment. It's great to be compared with him haha.
This piece is my equivalent of his "Saturn as seen from Titan".

Wonderful, I love the 'retro' feel to this painting. It reminds me slightly of a Michael Carrolls paintings. Great job!

Thank you, Lucy (:
The Carroll-like style is not a coincidence. I, just like you, bought his wonderful book of "Space Art: How to draw and paint planets, moons and landscapes of alien worlds"
In fact, the color scheme of the sky is a derivative of his jovian cloudscape from the book.
I have the book since february but I'm developing my own style very fast.

I did wonder! I love how you're developing your own style too! Have you heard if The International Association of Astronomical Artists or IAAA? I'm an artist member there, so us Micheal Carroll and almost all if the great space artists! I'm sure you would love it, the website us www.iaaa.org
