so this is what happened to all the fallen spartans on halo wars and reach.

A flood infection form would take a decade to get past the augmentations and armor on a spartan to take over.

Well, in the halo book The Flood Chief almost got infected by a Flood infection form piercing the suit on the back of his neck (fortunately, Cortana deterred it by shocking it with electricity)

It's been said before that the flood would take ages to actually infiltrate properly, requiring an already dead host that is for some reason not decaying. Some people are hard to infect, therefore the flood choose not to. John and Johnson are two such individuals.

not a huge fan of this Retcon called Flood mode. spartans were originally impossible to infect

Honestly I'm not a fan of the Flood infection mode either on Halo 4, it's not fun to play on anymore and you can't change your guy's color from that awful barf green.
And actully Spartan's could get infected only problem was is that it would take many years for the parasite to take control over the body of the Spartan due to all of the augmentations.

Same with the grunts, their bodies were hard to take control of.

The crack in the visor showing the eye just makes it look even more awesome

I thought so to. It makes it scarier and awesome at the same time.
On Zombie creatures with helmet or armor I always creak the visor for added scariness. Bu these lines on the Flood Zombie aren't mine. I am just coloring it for the artiest. ^^

Cool, I love it! Bonus points for use of the Mark V suit! The only thing is that I think the Flood portions might lean just a little too close to the plant-like side.

Well, the flood were wiped out as of the Halo event triggered, so I guess 343 weren't that worried bout it, plus it would be very hard to come up with a full detailed flood model for every single armor combination.
