I disagree , even the greedy side of the duck is whacky as hell (when you chastise a hunter that points a gun right at your beak , get shot AND STILL continue berating him... that's the daffiest thing you can do ! Jones never let him completely settle down & made him actually crazier . You heard right ! It's easy to yell woohoohoohooo & bounce around all the place, but to seem rational & sane while you're in fact an unleashed id that acts uncontrollably on his impulses, it is much harder act to pull .. )

Nice wacky style of the little black duck.
I'm going to let you in on a rather sad fact. Following Looney Tunes Back in Action, WB were actually planning to make some new theatrical shorts. They claimed they would be borrowing elements more from the late forties cartoons. They also stated in an interview that they were relooking Daffy, intending to make him a 'fuller character' akin to that of Robert McKimson's (McKimson made most of the final 'screwball' Daffy cartoons before Chuck Jones altered him, thus his Daffy is sort of considered 'mid-evolution', having both elements of the insane Daffy and the cynical, ambitious one). Unfortunately Back in Action was a box-office flop and the project seized production.

A shame as it seemed like this may have been a shining moment for the duck, especially since I thought the late 40s (eg. 'Daffy Doodles', 'What Makes Daffy Duck', 'Boobs in the Woods' were Daffy's golden era. We did get a slight vibe of it through the Duck Dodgers series I guess, and some of web toons on the official site are also similar (they're just simple flash cartoons, but some of them, such as Multiplex Mallard are actually pretty decent).

Yeah, if I had it my way, I really suggest we should revive Daffy's old looney personality

I think they should make him a screwball again, though maybe not to the extent of the pure and utter maniac from Porky's Duck Hunt. I liked McKimson/Davis' take on Daffy (almost anything from 1945 to 1949), the one who was still a goofball but had ambitions in his lunacy. That one seemed the most depthful. Also, because he was more diverse, the outcome of each cartoon was more unpredictable, unlike Avery's Daffy in which you knew he would drive someone crazy for seven minutes straight, or Jones' Daffy which you knew was going to flop tragically due to his ego.
I suppose in defence of Jones' neurotic Daffy, it did add more diversity to his character (it was just when they made all other units uniform with Jones' that destroyed the point of it all). Unlike Bugs or Speedy and the likes, Daffy doesn't have a role set in stone. He can portray just about any role; hero, villain, straight man or screwball and still be considered Daffy. He is almost akin to an 'animated actor'.

...back when he wasn't always the brunt of the jokes...I like that persona better...thanks.
I love it when he bounces around, yelling "Hoo-hoo! Hoo-hoo!" He's the original screwball!

Classic Daffy was actually...well, daffy. The current one is just greedy and jealous of Bugs.

Hoohoo! Hoohoo!
Aw, the old Daffy! I loved that little nutcase XD
(I still like him, even when he became stuffy, greedy, and irritable. Poor guy just needs a break)

Maybe you can do him as Duck Dodgers one day!
