I doodled up a few quick references while I was on vacation, just so I'd have some stuff to post when I came back. Sorry about the hands, as usual, but otherwise I hope you enjoy the refs and the accompanying bios:

The Melkai of the south seas are known to be tall, thin, dark skinned people with a more relaxed attitude than that of their northern cousins. Their fins are greatly reduced and their barbells are greatly extended, reflecting their tendency to frequent the crushing ocean depths on especially hot days. Indeed, the Melkai are believed to have originated in the north, and this belief is supported by the general sentiment of discomfort among the members of their race who live in the south. Perhaps as a result, south seas Melkai are more frequently seen as travellers and explorers.
Lamel is a perfect example, having left his home in the south seas long ago to pursue artistic endeavours in the cold north. Finding a strange but captivating beauty in the Frigid Isles, a magically warped cluster of islands far off the coast of Olive Valley, Lamel settled there years ago and has been actively painting ever since. His distinctively abstract 'Blue' paintings have garnered wide acclaim and can be seen in art galleries across the map.
As an artist, Lamel is generally recognized by painting enthusiasts, but as a person little is known about him. Word has it that he also operates a ferry between Olive Valley and the Frigid Isles, but beyond this only rumours hint at his true nature. Some claim that fans who visit the reclusive artist do not return, but such is the nature of rumour, after all.
