"Maddie is a girl. She doesn’t remember her age, but she thinks she is old enough to be a woman. Girl just sounds cuter. Maddie lives in a dark room which is sometimes a pink room. It is soft but it is also cold. Everything is cold.
   Maddie has lots of toys. She has a teddy, a cart on tracks, and lots of paper to use for personal writing. Maddie is a very good writer. You would like her writing. When she is bored, she rides in the cart and hugs her teddy, and sometimes she writes. She has a big shiny chest to hold her other toys, which she doesn’t like as much.
   Sometimes Maddie wants to leave the pink room. The people come and give her food and new toys, but they never let her leave. Maddie hates the people. They have bad auras. Maddie can see their bad auras. But what she does not understand is why the bad people give her nice things. Sometimes they bring her other people to play with. Those people never last long, but they are fun while they last.
   One day she will leave. Maddie will leave the pink room and maybe she will play with the bad people then. She will go somewhere far away, somewhere warm and bright. Maybe she will go home. What is home? Maddie will find it.
   Sometimes she has bad dreams. There are thoughts that make her head hurt because she can’t grab them. They always hide out of reach, but they come closer in her dreams. She can see fire, bodies of people who are not moving, and houses crumbling. Someone is holding her, but they are just another body. Then, she is a body too.
   Sometimes she wants to cry, but the tears never come. Maybe they’re just shy."
