Description
This Array was requested by a member on an Fullmetal Alchemist RP board. This Array, controls the sound causing vibrations in the air, amplifying them, quieting them, redirecting them, and anything else you can think of doing with sound. It only works if the sound is being transmitted through the air, so this Array would be non-functional if you used underwater.
The symbolism for this Array is simple, and easy to understand. The Triangle represents the Air which is the medium for the sound, the small circle in the center, represents the source of the sound, and the wave patterns on either side of the circle represent the vibrations through the medium (the air) that cause the sound.
The Array was meant to be placed on the back of a violin, so the text on the outside of the circle is a the second verse of this poem [link] about the violin.

Like to change the way your voice sounds? I guess if you knew the exact pitch and tone to adjust the vibrations to, you could change your voice, but its more for general volume change...like you could use it as a makeshift megaphone, or make your voice so loud it shatters things.

The symbol above the soundwave circle, what does it mean?

Its a symbol that stand for composition, its the part of the circle that allows control of the sound waves.

I figured that out because of a comment of you below. But I thank you anyway.

Ohhh okay! And so that symbol is responsible for altering the sound waves, right? Btw, I'm glad you don't have to write something...does writing affect the circle?

It adds to the symbolism, making it easier to understand. There's also instructional text, which acts as directions for the Array if you need specific measurements for something.

Wait, so do you need to write something about the object the circle is engraved on for it to work?

No. I just used the poem about a violin as a philosophical thing because the requester intended to put it on a violin.

1. Ohh okey!
2. -works on understanding the array's symbolism- okey, well I, the obviously novice alchemist, have a question. What's the symbol above the circle mean? And what's the font of the writing? THANKS!

That symbol represents composition, so the alteration of the soundwaves.
The font is a Lord of the Rings Dwarvish font that is actually just Anglo-Saxon runes, used by a Saxon tribe called the Anglians, who's language helped form modern English.

Hey I have a question or two about your array (WHICH ROCKS BTW!):
1. Say you're in a battle. Alchemical battle. Is it possible to amplify the sound waves to a really loud length in your opponent's direction? So that only they get affected by the sound, not you or others.
2. Do you need practice to get the hand of this?

Azerik92 In reply to MegaShadowkitty [2010-11-29 00:57:54 +0000 UTC]
1. That was the idea.
2. No durr, everything takes practice. Not to mention you need to be alchemist and understand the Array's symbolism.

also, how do you control the sound waves to make them go in the direction you ant. Like say you want o make some stereo music a little higher in your friends direction, how do you make sure you don't make the sound go really really high or super low or something? and how do you make them go in your desired direction?

Well see thats what the circle does. It does what you want, and if you know what you're doing, it won't do anything else. It would require intense concentration, plus the ability to multi-task by paying attention to your task and the world around you.

what language is on the outer circle of the array

The language is English, I'm just not using the Latin Alphabet, but rather using Anglo-Saxon runes from before the reign of King Arthur in Britain. The description contains a link to what the text says.

I wouldn't know, but the character it was designed for has many times. This was a fun one, which is why its still my featured pic on my DA page

Can it somehow amplify all sounds in a given area without contacting the source of those sounds?

No, this Array is designed to alter the sound waves at the source it stems from. v2.0, should I decide to make one, will be able to do that however.

Interesting way of going about it. I too am currently working on a sound array, but I can't find a way to amplify sound. I'm going for Tesla's theory of High-tone, Low-tone, destructive interference, instead destroying objects rather than the sound. Its like playing bass so loud people explode.
I might have figured out a way to produce sound that loud and at variant tones, but its rather complex.
But back to your array. Its a neat array and a great concept, but I don't know if a wave pattern is enough to create sound. One thing you might try is manipulating the air to create a "cone" or something of the sort that does the vibrating. Or, if you want to create the vibrations inside the array, using jagged lines or some sort of figure that produces energy that can be turned into vibrating energy.

Azerik92 In reply to Notshurly [2010-08-25 12:15:28 +0000 UTC]
See thing is Blye, you got it all wrong. This Array does not "create" sound waves, it composes the power and direction of already existing ones. If you simplify the process involved, the Array itself becomes much simpler. So this Array is activated, while touching the source of the sound (in this case a violin) and alters the sound waves.

It is slow but steady. I think the hardest part is digitalizing the symbols. I either need to get my scanner working, borrow a scanner, or use a friends because the last thing I want to do is draw every single symbol from my index. That's a LOT of symbols

Technically speaking you'd only need to change the triangle in the center to the water crucible to make it work in water, or change to earth to make it work in earth. Sound through fire of course doesn't really work. lol

It doesn't even need to be used on an instrument. As long as you know the source of the sound waves being transmuted, this Array can alter it.
