While in the United States, the high holy day is Easter Sunday, inΒ Mexico it is Good Friday, with many bloody reenactments of the crucifixion.Today is "Sabado de Gloria" in Mexico. Tradition was that believers didn't bathe from Palm Sunday until after Good Friday, so Holy Saturday was the first opportunity to wash one's body. Those who didn't bathe often had water thrown on them as a message to get clean.
Due to the drought, Mexico City now has stiff fines for those who waste water by dumping it on unsuspecting citizens.
