I originally drew her mane kind of more "messy" with the intent to show like the impact of her magical burst, but I adored that you also had that interpretation for it <3 While Twilight's is kind of flowy but not as much since she luckily managed to perform the spell to protect herself jusr in time <3 

I really adore this sort of rivalry/grudge sort of Miss holds against Twilight. It makes her for a very interesting character <3 Why is it she hates her so much?

It's complicated... 

Miss Remains (Miscellaneous Remembrance) was an equally gifted unicorn who was given the opportunity to go to Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns the same year as Twilight Sparkle.
Entrance exams where held on the same day for all the Unicorns who applied and Missy was anxiously waiting for her interview after Twilight Sparkle... when a SURGE of magic enveloped the entire building , turning Missy into a cactus.
Twilight Sparkle dazzled Professors who weren't even in the room with her! Nothing could compare to the glory of Princess Celestia's new pupil! Miss Remains, like many other unicorns that day were turned away, when they could not hold a candle to Twilight Sparkle's abilities.

Missy moved on. Her magic grew stronger with individual study, and eventually she carved out a heart-full of happiness with her son, Rumple . 
Rumple was sickly his entire life and curing him became Missy's life's work. She ventured far and wide to cure him, using every bit of love and energy she had, endless sleepless nights, pushing her magic to the ABSOLUTE limit. 

But it wasn't enough. Rumple died. 

Distraught, Missy turned to blaming the only pony she could muster a grudge on... Princess Twilight Sparkle. 
Princess Twilight had everything: friends, praise, the glory of being "Equestria's Hero", the element of Magic, being the personal protege of Princess Celestia, she became an Alicorn, she was the Princess of Friendship soon to be the Ruler of Equestria! Missy had fought the Changelings and The Storm Beasts, she tried to befriend MoonDancer, she knows just as many spells as Twilight, she's accomplished as much as Twilight! But was never good enough. Princess Twilight Sparkle had everything... and Missy had nothing. 

In a blind heart broken rage Miss Remains ambushed Princess Twilight with her powerful magic, manipulating the world around them with her pensions for Illusions. Ultimately, Missy broke down sobbing. 
She just wanted to cure her son, and she couldn't do that. 
She wasn't good enough for the School of Magic, wasn't good enough to save her son, wasn't anything. 

Missy fixed what she could and apologized. Moving out of Canterlot for good and going to live in the Frozen Wastes.
