Description
This my Halo 3 armor based on the character Tex from the amazing series Red vs. Blue by Rooster Teeth. Took about three months total. Not finished with it yet though. I still want to keep adding all of the little details and fix up all of the "con accidents" that took place.Armor by me, photo by friend SavvyTank.
More pictures of this cosplay and updates on it's status can be found on the DA of my cosplay group.
Since I'm asked this a lot:
It's handmade. I'm part of a prop making organization that specializes in Halo gear. That would be the 405th. You can go to our forums and read up on how we make our armor using Pepakura. www.405th.com

I get my cardstock from Walmart. And when I say print, I mean with a printer. My visor is nothing more than a motor cycle visor.

ohhh okay i see, thanks. but isn't carstock thick? i don't know if my printer can handle it.
cool i had no idea it was a motorcycle visor.

It's not that thick that you should have any trouble feeding it through.

Everything you could ever want to know about armor-making can be found at www.405th.com. It's a prop building organization that specializes in Halo.
There are threads that cover every subject matter you could ever want to know. That's just in case you have any extra questions after this.
My shopping list was composed of cardstock, a hot glue gun, resin, fiberglass, padding and spraypaint. I got most of it at Walmart. And it took about 3 months.

Buckle down and get all the pep done first. If unsure on the sizing, make low res versions first to test with, then move on to high res. A sharp exacto knife is your friend and it's okay to ask people to help you cut out the pep pieces. It's the worst part of the whole process...

AzureProps In reply to Swivairis [2010-08-03 22:20:03 +0000 UTC]
The 405th? That's odd. We had some trouble with our severs a few months back, but that should be fixed....
[link] is were you can find all the pepakura files related to Halo. I'd recommend starting with a low def version of whatever you decide to build first. I ended up building an extra helmet before I did my final version. Mostly to test out that I had the sizing correct and to get practice in...
I'd keep trying to get on the forums at www.405th.com so you can read the stickies. They have all the in depth info on how to change the sizing and putting it all together correctly. It would take me forever to relate it all right here.
Good luck!

Lol.
Well, I had a lot of help from my friends in a prop making community called the 405th. We specialize in anything Halo based really.
My advice would be to go to the site, www.405th.com and read up on the stickies. Grab a free program called Pepakura and start making armor!
You too can have an outfit comprised of cardstock and fiberglass. Hope you like puzzles.

We're part of a community of prop makers who specialize in halo props. Check out 405th.com. You'll find threads on how to make armor. Be sure to read the stickies first though. Good luck!
We went with the cardstock and fiberglass method, btw.

Astounding job you did on this. Me and a couple of my friends are trying to get going on a group Halo cosplay. Now I'm not going to ask you to write out the entire step-by-step process that you went through to make this wonderful costume and where you bought each materials for how much. But any links that you have to any guides or help you used would be VERY useful. (That's assuming you needed help, I haven't seen anything else you've done, so for all I know you could be a total cosplay guru)
The helmet is especially well done, I might add.

Thanks for the comment! There is actually a semi step by step process available online. I belong to a community of prop makers who specialize in Halo armor making. We share techniques and secrets all the time with each other. Head to [link] and checkout the forums. You can find threads on everything related to armor making. Just be sure to read all the stickes before asking questions. And I approve on you guys wanting to make your own armor! It's so worth it! And cheaper than buying it from someone.
(I actually belong to a cosplay group on DA called ShinkaCosplayStudios. We don't have much up right now, but we're having some photoshoots soon. Come by and check us out. I'll be posting all my future cosplay stuff, halo included, on it.)
