Amazing capture! That looks like a big (do you know what kind?) fish caught and staring down it’s captors throat here!

So can the bird really manage to win the struggle and gulp that whole thing okay?? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten, does the unlucky prey get swallowed wriggling as well?

That's a fantastic shot! O.o Excellent work! (Man, I missed these Β photos)

What's he eating there, do you know?

Thank you! I'm glad to hear my photos were missed, it's feels good to know you're not forgotten
Thankfully it's fall now (no harsh heat!) and I wake up earlier so I should be out and about more taking photos again ^^
And feeling better so that helps too.

Not sure but I believe it's some sort of eel. in a few of my other shots (not quite gallery quailty) the poor guy looks terrified!

I think your guy may be a Penpoint Gunnel Not terribly sure though. Can you note me the photos of the 'terrified' one?

I like looking at your photos! Birds and wildlife is cool, and personally, I think your photos come out the best. :3

Yeah, Ikr? I love the fall and winter seasons. :3 Nothin' better than them! :3 (Although wildlife might be more scarse)Β
Glad you're feeling better!

It looks like an eel, yeah. Β
Oh wow, well, that's nature, I suppose.

Thank you ^^

So am I, though there's more wildlife here, less hot so they're out and about.

Yep though in Japan there are fishermen that use cormorants to fish.

You're welcome!

Ah I suppose, good old Washington. XD But the snow on the ground is awful pretty too!

Cormorants? What is that?

Actually we're having really usual weather and it has me a bit worried. There was a thunderstorm the other day and a tornado touched down elsewhere O.o"

Oh the bird in the photo, or a similar species. They use the birds to catch the fish. It's an old, traditional method.

You're welcome! Β

You too! I've been pretty decent lately. Lot of schoolwork though, so its pretty stressful. More then compensated by some really cool wildlife I've seen lately though!

Schoolwork is a tough one. I started volunteering again at my local high school. I am so rusty at Adobe Premier and not many students are as interested in Photoshop, graphics/digital art or photography. I want to help with the script writing, story telling and filming since I know lots and lots on that but the teacher hasn't really assigned me to help there. It's frustrating but I'm giving it time.

But I have to hear about the wildlife you've seen! Any new lifers?

That's nice to hear! A lot of the students at my school would -love- extracurriculars for those Two friends of mine are collaborating with me at the current moment. We're trying to start a group focusing on Ecology/Wildlife (instead of just Animal Rescue, which seems to be merely Cat and Dog Rescue).Β

A few in Mongolia Bearded Reedling really stood out. Some migrating ones too, including Oystercatcher and Saunder's Gull (a bit like a Bonaparte's Gull, but not as lightly built). You?

Ah cool! How's that going?

No nothing new, need to get off the peninsula before the weather takes a turn (windstorms are coming).

Good, overall Still planning though.

Oh I see. Keep safe! Β

(oh and also, just a heads-up. The cormorants used in traditional East Asian bird-fishing are usually Great Cormorants or Temminck's Cormorants- not Pelagic. )Β

AzureWindProductions In reply to Cypselurus [2014-10-26 20:00:02 +0000 UTC]

I will, worst we normally have is power outages.

No worries, I was just referring to they use cormorants in general terms, not the Pelagic or any specie specifically.

Yeah though other parts are on flood watch as the rain moves in. It's finally regular fall weather, for the most part. It's been oddly dry and warm up until now and right before I go to the zoo But at least the cheetahs are still there! I didn't get the best shots before but if it's not raining come Monday I might have a better shot since it's not super hot anymore.

It's still cool to know which species they do fish with.
