EDIT: This is odd. The black areas are supposed to be transparent...this leads to some awkward aliasing near the bottom. You can get past this by downloading the image (It's a biggie, though, be careful).EDIT 2: Ha ha ha! I copped out and used deviantART's background color to compensate. That is all.
A mash-up between old-timey western and sci-fi (Though the robot turned out a tiny bit steampunk as well). Also an attempt to make a background that makes sense.
I also tried a modified version of 's adjustment layer technique on top of my own. That really brought the colors to life; Thanks!

I've been thinking of having a comic with this character. There's some backstory ideas I have in my head, as well as other characters. I've got next to no experience with sequential art, though. What do you guys think?

This is now one of the main characters of the comic. I am designing the other characters now.

Nifty! would be cool as a comic, the style is neat, reminds me of something...the colors also are a nice mix for this type of modern stuff, I can't see many cowboy western resemblances though, other than his jacket.

I agree about the western thing; I tried with the copper bolts and rivets, but I guess it's hard to make a robot west without going steampunk.
There will be other human characters that I'll try to make more cowboy-westish, though.

Heh, I like steam punk stuff with copper bolts etc, you should try that on one design maybe? anyway, what you have designed is pretty darn sweet none the less.
