Description I hate when people (or bodies of people IE governments etc) do things in Gods (or Allah or whatever you want to call him/her/it/them) name! Most of us have sort of forgotten whats going on over there in Iraq. That doesn't mean its not happening anymore. We've just started to get used to the thought. Whether we like it or not.

Anyway, back to the topic:
I get frustrated when people (or governments) say they follow god and then do something like.... Invade a country?? This piece is dedicated to using God as an excuse for evil.

Just sick of people going out and doing things in Gods name....

And now i'm very sleepy!

*goes to sleep*

DD! WOW! THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Go check these peeps out!

THANKYOU!

I will try and reply to all your comments and such but it might take a little while...

P.S. It seems that some people are wondering how religion comes into play here. One of my main points in this argument is the official US motto. 'In God We Trust'. ( See here: [link] )

I do not believe that you can say such a thing, such a bold statement, without at least IMPLYING that everything you do is of god.

Once you begin to portray your allegiance (If you will) In such a way, you can no longer really separate the two anymore (State and religion).

But thats my belief anyway...

EDIT: Uploaded separate print version because I had to screw with the image to get it a little larger for print. See:

I absolutely love this! Something that a lot of people don't keep in mind is religion is taught and faith is a learned behavior. As long as governments and other controlling bodies keep force feeding people to believe "we're doing this because it's what (insert cultural name for "God" here) wants", nothing is going to get better. It's just another example of the herd following the leader and jumping on the religious bandwagon to make themselves feel better about the destruction (of any type) they're creating. As the saying goes "whatever makes you sleep better at night"...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

B0073D In reply to SanguineAddictionPh [2009-02-28 07:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. Believing that it is 'god's will justifies a somewhat horrible act and lets them sleep. Terrible things have been done in the past all in 'god's name. All because they either needed a reason, or they thought they were right and god WAS telling them to /bomb/kill/assasinate/murder etc etc etc.

One thing that always bothers me about those kind of statements (Go told me to blah) is that... Well... 'god' told the 9/11 terrorists to bomb the towers... So where do we draw the line? Where do we start saying, No, this is our imagination, Or something of the kind.

You cant win when both sides think they are on the side of god.

(Yes, a little off topic I know but I felt the need to rant, my apologies)

I'm in total agreeance, no apology necessary. People need to stand up and make it known because until more of the ones of us who see what is going on stands up against it, it will always be "the blind leading the blind".

Vivienne-Mercier In reply to ??? [2009-02-28 05:34:19 +0000 UTC]

Also, I just wanted to say that this hardly looks like digital art. At first, I thought it was sculpted from wood or something, and painted white! The light and shadow effects make it seem as if there is a lamp shining on solid objects. The starkness of it says a lot, too. The people are all marching into the church like little robots, unthinking, unfeeling, and coming out programmed with a dangerous mindset. When placed against the background of religious history--which is one of violence, bloodshed, and hatred--this image becomes rather disturbing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

B0073D In reply to Vivienne-Mercier [2009-02-28 07:59:30 +0000 UTC]

Which is part of the aim I suppose. Telling people about bloodshed in another country might not grab their attention, But showing them a picture of a beheaded 5 year old? (I apologize for the gruesome example)

Sometimes you need to make something disturbing for people to really understand whats going on.

Thankyou for your comments!

Very good concept, something that has been happening for thousands of years. Why can't people worship whatever god they want and let others do the same, without going to war with each other over whose god is best? It is so tragic.

so is it the part of useing God as the forefrount, or God himself that you really object?? just wondering its not very clear only reason i ask.

I dont object to god, being fairly spiritual myself. I DO NOT however agree in his/her/its being used the way people are.

I do not object to good, I object to what people think god has told them to do, or what people do in gods 'will'.

I've just amended the piece and also added a journal entry, hope that clears things up.

Wait... when did America ever use religion as an excuse for this war? It used the threat of danger to people as an excuse... β€œterrorism” and danger were the slogans that the Bush administration used to convince people to one cause or another, just as Obama uses β€œChange”.

Any, neat little piece. Surely an eye grabber, even if I don’t see where you got religion being the cause of the invasion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

B0073D In reply to psychokittyboy [2009-02-28 08:06:12 +0000 UTC]

As soon as any government or body associates itself with any deity (Which the US government HAS see: [link] and plenty of other ways too) and do something, anything, they are saying that it was gods (or whoever) will.

Because most of these religions require TOTAL obedience, any link to them and bang, you're a 'messenger'. And what you do is the will of 'god'.

At least thats the way I see it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psychokittyboy In reply to B0073D [2009-02-28 08:48:49 +0000 UTC]

I doubt many people would make that connection sir. In fact, I know no one I know of in person has. They wanted this war because we were told Sadam had weapons that threatened our safety, and so soon after 9/11 we would do everything in our power to keep anything from possibly harming us again. Stupid in retrospect, but one cannot force such sense on a panic stricken populace. The Government used this fear to get whatever it is they wanted out of this war (Money is what I hear the most, but I don’t even try to hazard a guess at their thought processes).

In the 50’s, when America was fighting β€œthose Godless Communists”, I can see how and why those symbols made their way into our currency, monuments, and other such thins. I also see that yes, religion came into play back then… but one has to understand modern American’s to realize invoking God’s name to do anything won’t propel people to much action. Sure, you have the Evangelicals out there… they make up what? 5 to maybe 10% of the population (Most likely not even that, but I’m too lazy to find exact numbers)? Only major religious group In the United States that I know of that has that creepy fanatical military movement… not to say there are not more, my knowledge is admittedly limited on the subject.

I apologize if this makes little sense, it is rather late here and I am not thinking too well. But I am enjoying this conversation; please do not take anything I say as an attack.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

B0073D In reply to psychokittyboy [2009-02-28 09:07:25 +0000 UTC]

I see what you're saying and I dont feel this is an attack.

My point, however, is that by saying you follow god, anything that you do will be in his name. If you uphold the his name and say he is with you, then you are saying that what you are doing is his will.

I know many people connect the US government to Christianity, to go. Maybe not in the US itself. But certainly in places like iran, iraq, where soldiers pray in the morning, come back with bloodsoaked minds and hearts in the evening.

Do you see what im saying?
