About the smoking: it's ART, people! If it's there in the image, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that there's a darn good reason why (and it may be entirely the point that it harms the baby- as part of the idea, y'know?).

The cigarette is in the image not as a symbol to harm the child, that would be wrong. But it is metaphor for me... Just as the poolgame is. And the bar. And so on... Plus it's open to variable to multiple interpretations!

I made it look like it was just lit, the start of a firey new experience. It also represents the fire of the erect phallus which she is holding but looking away from. These are just two explanations of the cigarette with some personal backgrounds... And I love difficult questions!

lol there are a lot of different time realms mixed within this photo.
a) a break
aa) in the sense of sexual intercourse
ab) in the sense of the first time they did x, whereupon x can stand for various things like first met each other or first kissed, or have fallen in love to each other
b) the more than famous cigarette after
c) pregnancy, whereupon b implies c, however the time when it was smoked must no be necessarily the time she got pregnant.
d) but next to pregnancy also the beginning of a family, esp. if you consider the focuses of their gazes,
which probably expresses a common stereotype.
e) the time when they split.
f)...

Yeah, actually I noticed this, as I was looking for the 8-ball in the set. This break reminds me on mine in my youth. I hardly ever managed to split them. However, here this could probably have a positive connotation.

On its own, posing for shot using unlighted cigarette is harmless. It may well be the, I assume couple's idea and may well be part of the interesting collection to look back to in the future.
However when gallery moderator choose this as a DD, this I feel it's a wrong message sent. In my thoughts, this admin seems to think it's "alright" for heavily pregnant women to smoke and thus okay to be featured.

You so see this the wrong way in my opinion. I find it difficult to label my own work as art, but art provokes, art moves, art makes you think and if anything art makes you feel strong(er) about your own feelings and thoughts! I think the moderator had that in mind more than an on the surface woman holding a cigarette.

I'm very sorry, but how do you know she is smoking here? You are seeing a lit cigarette in the hands of a pregnant woman, without any sign she is actually smoking.
I suggested this piece because of the amazing composition and mood it sets. I am disappointed people rush to the assumption the woman in the photo is actually smoking, and disregard the excellent photo as a result.

I wish all the people freaking out would come and visit my shithole of a town. Then they'd be really shocked at seeing all the pregnant women (or in most cases, girls) putting all kind of shit into their bodies. That's bad. This photo isn't, it's a harmless representation of people doing what people do.

Exactly, and unfortunately, the truth that rings from it is widely renowned. But I mean, in the photo, they're also acting as if they're unhappy and discontent. You'd think that alone would make ti quite obvious this photo isn't meant to endorse anything. As a happy couple with good news, anyone who lived a better Lifestyle than what this portrays would be all smiles. But here? Unfortunately, it speaks volumes of abhorrent truths and people over look that so easily and make it into the very thing it possibly seems as if it's meant to be against.
On the other hand, even if it were saying it's okay, then that's just what they believe. As much as others may believe it's wrong and irresponsible, it's not going to change their opinion of how they should live, and calling the entire idea of a fictional photo stupid isn't going to make a different to them. There are people who have smoked while pregnant and the children were born and grown without so much as a touch of asthma, so it's not impossible. The endless amounts of comments bashing this, geez.
Sorry to rant, you seemed to be one of the only other two or so people that seem to have a clearer understanding of the depiction and respect for others (in this case, the couple), so I apologize.

Well, I did mean to give the artist an actual comment, but I somehow got caught up with bickering. I can't help myself.
But yeah...photos implying suicide get nothing but praise for 'highlighting depression' and shit like that, but God forbid someone highlight a bad habit that many women continue to do through pregnancy. There's a pic of her drinking wine in the gallery. It's obviously meant to be a controversial theme, but damn, some people are easy to bait.
They just want to live in a world of sunshine and rainbows where nobody ever does anything irresponsible

I'd ask them what photoshopped smoke on a computer screen does to a fetus, but they'd probably just stare at me like I had just asked the stupidest question in the world. I'm pretty sure the rest of the world knows exactly what smoke does to fetuses, seeing as how it's been drilled into people's heads for decades now and is printed on every single cigarette box and carton around the world. But I guess one fake photo that people are told is faked must have some sort of overriding property that causes all other warnings to become non-existent. Thanks for your concern.

There is no excessive violence, profanity, nudity, or gore, and the end result, as stated before, is not the same to the casual viewer.
