She's not actually smoking and the I highly doubt the shot is promoting smoking while pregnant. And look it the smoke again. It's fake.

you think the message is "if you're pregnant, you should smoke"? if i showed you a violent picture, would the picture be promoting violence? it can be the opposite, drawing attention to a negative thing, not to promote, but to provoke thought

it is not the picture that promotes anything, it is dA that promotes the picture... 
(I do know that it's not 100% correct to say so as the choices of gallery directors not reflect the will of the owners of dA, but it's close).

First of all, it's volunteer gallery directors that promote the pictures, not DA. If you have an issue, I suggest you take it up with them. Secondly, your replies in this thread are highly disturbing. Exactly how sheltered do you think people should be? How about we remove pictures with guns, fast food, prostitution, etc and hide them all away from public view? With the right education, anyone can tell you that certain things are harmful. If someone thinks that smoking while pregnant is okay while looking at the picture... well, the picture isn't the problem.

Really? Because art is different to each person, and since the artists has not specified what the message exactly is, only that it's for a couple of friends, I beg to differ. The artists blatantly says in a comment that it's hard to get a pregnant women in that country anywhere close to a cigarette, for one, and for another, he also says that the smoke is photoshopped, so it wasn't actually lit. Since it's open to interpretation, and not depicting real Life, the message is NOT the same. Other people may see it differently. "Such ignorance," indeed.

Yes, I see it differently. The photo depicts a smoking pregnant woman and it's widely promoted on dA, without even having a mature tag on. How hip is that! Oh, nut you're only assuming that we're saying it's okay. And no, I personally don't see any violence depicted here. That's not ignorance, that's a different interpretation, which art is supposed to evoke. Just as this couple has a different interpretation of what a good pregnancy shoot theme is, I have a different interpretation of what you see here. I here a message about the consequences and bad treatment of others being portrayed to bring it to our attention so we can do it differently. You see it as glamourization. If you believe that having an opinion is ignorance, than you should really look up the definition and learn the difference. And again, there's no mature content tag because by deviantART's standards, this photo does not meet the requirement for it. So it has nothing to do with being "hip," he just has no reason to do so, and it doesn't go against the rules of dA.

Considering this is a piece of art open to interpretation, it's very fair. Your jdugement of my difference of interpretation as "failing to see something" is not only unfair, it's also narrow minded.
If you see something there, then that's fine and I respect that. I do not, however, respect being told that I've "failed" to see something as one way in accordance to a singular person and only that way when it's open to be seen differently.

I'm sorry to cut in here, but I have researched and lived through "passive smoking" and I think you got the wrong idea sir.
Passive smoking, or second-hand smoke (SHS), is "the involuntary inhaling of smoke from other people's cigarettes, cigars, or pipes."
In this photograph the woman is merely posing with an unlit cigarette. There is no smoking, nor is there smoke inhalation going on. Just touching a cigarette is not passive smoking. This photo was just simply doctored to get the effect and message they were intending for.
No, I highly doubt the photo is promoting pregnant women to smoke. Most likely the message is showing the "ignorance of the generation."
As for the Photoshop thing, when this photo was doctored with Photoshop the original picture showed an unlit cigarette. After they doctored it, the cigarette seemed to be lit but is not actually lit.
To sum this up, the women is just posing with the cigarette, the cigarette is not lit, and the smoke is fake (just drew in there after the photo was taken).
