I'm thinking maybe Zorua is the child of a Zoroark owned by Summer, Bisharp was caught as a Pawniard and Scizor was a catch as a Scyther with a Dramatic Friendship Moment for Bisharp and Ruby.

Well, the first trailer of RWBY was released onΒ November 5th, 2012. And the first announcement of pokemon X, Y was on january 8th, 2013. So Ruby appeared just a few months sooner.
