Description
This a prototype ring I designed in December.I hand carved a piece of cocobolo wood for the ring then inlaid a broken usb stick into the top. I have added two metal plates to keep the usb in place.
I originally planned for this ring to have a working usb drive that could be slid out. But this design leaves the drive pretty unprotected and is a bit fiddly unless the wearer plans on carrying round a miniature screw driver
This design is not yet for sale until I have decided whether to leave it as a basic piece of jewellery or to make it a working usb drive.

cocobolo is amazing wood. Hate how it burns the nose though. Love the prototype. FYI, Old hard drives have the best circit boards in them. Super detailed and very small components.

Your scraps pile must have a lot of interesting bobs and bits in it I'd say filling the cavity with enamel or resin would be a nice touch.

Hey Gillian! As you've suggested, I'm hoping to use a resin in the cavity. but its a material I have no experience in using, so I'm taking some time to research the best material for the job.

;D Me neither. And you have to mix it just right, I've heard. I had also heard that "Crystal" was the brand or something that gives the clearest look... It is expensive to try, so I haven't yet. There are too many different things I want to do! ;D I think you can mix up a small amount for testing. Use a bottle cap or something cheap and throw away. And then, avoiding air bubbles...

I personally like it as it is, a bit of geek jewelry that doesn't need to serve any other purpose.
