Cassius, despite his looks, is actually fairly friendly. He’ll readily make friends with his dorm mates, but when it comes to others, he is a little wary. Due to what he is, he is always concerned that others will prejudge him. Fact is, when you’re expected to feed mainly on the souls of children, people don’t like you so much.
Because of that, while he’s a friendly kid, he does tend to get his back up easily when someone seems turned off by him, or wary of his presence. This hair trigger tends to make him go from happy, friendly and kind to reserved and brooding in nothing, flat.
In his classes, he’s an average student. He’ll speak if called on, or if he is in a particularly daring mood, but he mostly doesn’t want attention drawn to himself, and would much rather go through his classes without notice, just doing what he can to get by.
History:
Cassius’ parents were both mortals, unaware of the plans that his mother’s mother had for him, from the day she learned that he had been conceived. Fact was, his own grandmother had lived as a shtriga for millennia before she became a step mother to the infant who would become Cassius’ mother. His mother had never been the type she would peg to be able to become a shtriga, to feed on spiritus vitae, basically pure souls – most likely, in most cases, those of children.
Once the child was born, she immediately kidnapped him, taking him out of the country, and changing his name, slowly beginning the ritualistic black magic that would turn him into the same being as she. Cassius grew, learning that what he was was hated, and learning to control his change from human to shtriga. However, following his 205th birthday, his grandmother abandoned him in the once Roman city, Nicopolis, telling him it was time for him to learn his own way in the world, and to never forget what she’d taught him (namely, that he could only be killed by wrought iron, while feeding, and how to keep himself hidden from humans). It was while in this Grecian city that he learned of Arcadium. Distraught, and not wanting to make his own way, and desiring companionship of any kind, he sought out the school, and nearly begged to be enrolled.
