How do you get that nice rendering between digital and traditional style? Is it a mix of adding noise and a specific pen tool in what program?

The Growlithe and my chara, Kalyptō, are actually from my sketch book during our move and settling.
However all else- I just use Sai and default things! Size down image or sharpen.

What kind of tablet do you use? I've been considering a screen-tablet, but the ones I've researched on amazon seem to have a lot of sacrifice in terms of price. Would a cintiq be better, or no?

I do use Cintiq 13HD! Some people like other tablets, however personally this feels so similar to paper and traditional/digital fusion.
I've had it since Januar of 2017 and so far with screen protector (I will link you if you happen to get this tablet) everything has been perfect.

Oooh, yeah I've been considering Cintiq myself, and I actually might just go with one as well. A link would be lovely, yes, thank you! I sometimes press hard with out realizing, so a screen protector would be nice xD
anything close to that raw/paper sensation is my favourite as well. I'm a very sketch-strength person, so this is perfect. Thank you so much for the information as well ;__; I have been struggling with decisions, so this helps relieve my concerns on the cintiq in general! Am super glad it has been
