Description
This is my first attempt at a tutorial. This is the method I use to create water effects in DAZ Studio. I hope somebody finds this useful.Related content

Does this work with newer versions of DAZ by chance? Cause I have 4.7 and I'm having trouble getting the water surface to appear correctly on the plane. Reply when you can. Much appreaciated.

I use 4.7 now, and I still use this same basic set-up for water. Try maybe adjusting the glossiness to around 50% and turn the ambient down to zero. You may need to adjust your lights, too. If there is no light with specular hitting the surface of the water, you won't get a good reflection effect. Without knowing what lighting and surface settings you are using, I can't really tell what is going on.

I am using DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro, but I think I might be able to use this. Most of the tutorials I have seen are ineffective concerning this, and I have searched for a good one for three years.

I use 4.5 pro as well, and still use this method. I hope it works for you.

Because of you and two others I have found, I've made more progress in the last week than I had in the previous three years. I have actually achieved a still water effect that looks fairly real. Still got some tweaking to do with my settings, but I'm getting there.
Thanks a bunch for the tutorial.

Thank you very much for posting this. My husband and I very much enjoy your work. He's been working with DAZ much longer than I have; I'm still a rank newbie. But when I come across helpful things like this, I fave them and put them in a tutorial folder for future reference.
Hope you don't mind if I watch. Have a great weekend!

Looks good. I'm still learning my way around the surfaces stuff. So can I ask, why the 50% strength on the diffuse map? I haven't figured out what that does. I know what the Diffuse does, I'm just not sure what changing the strength does.

It changes the value of the diffuse map. I use it to adjust the intensity of the color of the diffuse map. Setting it at 50% brings out the color of the water without making it look un-natural. Try rendering it at different settings and see what you get. I'll adjust it up or down depending on the lighting also.
