Particle accelerator, beam cannon, proton lance. All these names describe weapon system, the main principle of which is the accumulation and subsequent release of supercharged protons at near-light speeds. The stream of subatomic particles not only easily pierces the target's armor, but also disrupts its atomic structure, making it more vulnerable to subsequent attacks.
The first such particle accelerator was secretly developed by the Corporate сonspirators as a "Weapon of Victory" over the Empire in the War of Greed that soon followed. And it surely lived up to its name. Combined with hit-and-run tactics, these weapons allowed Corporate rebels to destroy more than half of the Imperial fleet on the third month of the war, losing only five ships in the process. Many analysts believe that if it were not for the asymmetric response of the Empire, the coup could result in the end of the Empire as such.
