I don't know why some would find this movie not scary enough when it is if you have a fear of dolls, or that Mary Shaw truly is a creature of pure evil with a demonic face that will give you nightmares.

That's true, but I personally didn't find the dolls that scary.
It was kinda clear the producers tried to make them look as terrifying as possible,
which didn't really work for me, but I'm sure it did for others.
I found Mary Shaw more terrifying than the dolls, but not so bad that I couldn't sleep.
I guess a lot of people has a much tougher skin than you would expect and therefor don't
concider "Dead Silence" as a scary movie. Or people probably are used to overused of special effect and gore.

I remember when Paranormal Activity came it was concidered THE MOST scariest horror movie ever made,
and people freaked out about it.
Now a majority of people think it's a laughing stock.
I think people's feeling for horror movies just change through time.

I have fear of ventriloquist dummies and Death Silence was the most un-scary thing ever. XP
I guess to me the dummies were trying too hard to be scary and evil, so they ended up just being not scary at all but cheesy. Fats from "Magic" has a perfectly calm and serene look on his face, yet he was way more sinister than Mary Shaw. The modern horror movie jumpscares didn't help either.

That's also why I don't find Annabelle movie version scary, they made her look too scary that it's ridiclious.
I think the real life Annabelle is more scary, but of course they couldn't use her original design since
it's a copyrighted doll.

Wan should've just googled "Vent Haven Museum of ventriloquist dummies", find the images and ask his team to re-create a bunch of those, and that would've given me instant nightmares.
In 2014 or something I watched a Danger Dolan countdown list and in it they randomly brought up that museum and showed some pictures of the dummies in that place... and I'm not joking, I had a purely phobic reaction, you know that awful mix of repulsion and shock that squeezes inside your chest? I shut the video off and I had to stay up all night.
Instead of being "evil looking", all it takes to make a doll/dummy creepy is to simply rely on the Uncanny Valley. i.pinimg.com/originals/6b/ff/d…

Mary did creep me out a lot when i first saw her, i remember i used to sleep with an airsoft gun under my pillow and a folding knife as well because of it the first time i watched dead silence
