Good god, this is amazing! I'm am absolutely blown away by this wonderful piece! The structure and antomy is perfect, yet it still has that cartoony look, which i think is a great. You have true talent beyond words, and at the moment I'm speechless. That doesn't really matter since i can type this message
The eyes are just so full of life, and the fur tecture, freekishly amazing. I can't get my eyes off this as I am in denial that a human is capable of doing amazing artwork as this. I hope you don't mind if I try my hand at something like this. I would love to experiment with my new tablet since i know what it is capable of.
Thank you for doing amazing artwork as this. Definitely a rare Cherryjam fav

back for another comment... not sure why; must have seen it on someone's favorites (and you sure did snag a lot! 728?!? that's bloody INSANE!, yet certianly deserving of every one!) and decided to leave another now that I have more time. Here on DA, your art is definitive.
When I first saw the small thumb on the DA side-panel, I thought it was a photograph! when I looked closer, something gave it away, and I knew it had to be one of yours. What set it apart from a photo at first in my eyes I can't really say... perhaps the background or the ideal, almost dynamic lighting. After clicking on it and looking at the deviation I think the eyes had a digital look to them.... I've never seen eyes in a digital painting that had the same life as the real thing, and these looked like something from a dream of fantasy. Yet in comparison to a captive animal (which I have had many oppertunities to photograph), they seem more full of life, in a way, than the real thing.
Looking at the full view, The detail is stunning. Arguably the best fur I have seen in a digital image. The subtleties of the expression are wonderful; again, with an almost dreamy touch of fantasy. Your painting -- for that's certianly what I would call it -- really brings it to life on a different level.
I can't begin to imagine the amount of work and care that goes into a piece like this, to say nothing of how you do it -- how you bring them to life.
Now I promised myself I wouldn't fav anything that was submitted while I was on vacation, but I love big cats, and cougars are no exception; this is a very striking piece, so I might as well make it 729!

To have a second comment and one so full of insight, even I couldnt dream of coming up with! WOW I feel truly flattered and at a loss for words to convey to you how much such kind words mean to me! It humbles me to see this many favorites for a picture I feared to even upload because it was work I loved but I didnt want to see others dislike it..beccause of the fact that I was proud of it! We artists live in a continual paradox ..a love hate relationship with our own art! Thank you for making me see the beauty in my own art, your words are elegant, they dissect the picture and place it on many different planes! Thank you for making me feel special today! I am smiling BIIIG and its thanks to you!!!!
With sincere appreciation,
~Balaa/Ana

Now I'm disconcerted; I donβt consider myself eloquent and was not expecting such a gracious response... I believe I know what you mean though in reference to your perspective as an artist -- I never really like my own work; I'm habitually uneasy about posting it, and almost all of it goes into my scraps rather than my formal gallery.
Youβre very welcome; your art is deserving of the attention it receives.
Thank you for the watch
Godspeed,
~Cunjo

You are most welcome for the watch, your work is certainly worthy of far more views than it receives..yet I do not doubt that the day will come when you are given the recognition you deserve! Just keep them coming, the best we can do is teach ourselves to appreciate our own work more..after all..if we can please ourselves, we have pleased our most harshest of critics!

This really is an amazing picture certainly worth every fav and the daily deviation. However that is just an understatement because no amount of words can describe how awesome I think this picture is!
The first major impression I had with this picture was an instant warm, happy, fuzzy feeling that would usually be experienced when placed face to face with a basket of puppies or kittens However, after seeing the full detailed view, I have to say that there appears to be a kind of "sadness" to the... um I want to say cougar but I'm not to sure if the species of the feline was meant to be defined. In fact the next thing that I thought of was the Mona Lisa and her "smile" so, yes, I would deffinately call this the Mona Lisa of the big cats (In fact I bet Da Vinchi would say the same if he ever saw this
). Overall I guess it was the contrasting light, and glossy eyes that made me think of that. Also the fur is just incredible! I wonder, did you use the tutorials on "froofy fur" at [link] or did you do each individual strand pixel by pixel? Either way that definately must have required tons of patience
Coincidentaly... I happened to see this piece of art just after watching The Lion King DvD that I got for Christmas which automatically made me start drooling over this! Unfortunately I really can't offer any constructive critiques on such a beautiful piece of artwork mostly because I can't find anything wrong with it, and honestly I just don't have the artistic integrity to critique it. Also I would also like to compliment you on all your other pieces here, as well as the pictures you have on you TLK Fan-art Archive. Also thanks for the inspiration that this picture seems to radiate, I suddenly have an urge to start drawing Lion King stuff!
Anyway thanks for sharing this great piece!

Wow!! Of alll the comments I received on this picture yours was one of the few that truly touched me! I never thought to compare her to Mona Lisa but I suppose I can see some of the attributes you too find. I think there is a somber depth to her eyes, mystery to what thoughts are held by lock and key in her heart. I always adored eyes because they can carry so much weight, beauty, meaning! I thank you for noticing all the intricacies and too for visiting my gallery! Such words heal my heart when I am ready to give up on my work! I have seen that tutorial before but I never used it. I made a few of my own brushes and found a few online and tweaked them for this picture. It was a process of discovery and from this one piece I learned so much...even though ehe I almost trashed it several times . I am glad it was this piece that received daily deviation because so many people could see the gift for my best friend.
Oh and yes she is a cougar ! ANNDDD enjoy the Lion King, truly is one of the most inspiring films I have ever seen!
Thank you again!
With sincerity,
~Ana/Balaa

Why thank you, I am very happy to know that what I said made you feel that way, and for that I am extremely greatful! Also I totally agree with your love of the eyes (as I am sure many others do as well). I personally believe that when it comes to any animal or person the eye could very well be the most important tool of expression because of its "honesty" with such a wide range of emotions.
Also, even though it is none of my business, I do hope that you don't give up your work. To give up your artistic creativity would be like a bird losing its wings! Ok enough of the philisophical poppycock ( poppycock... I love that word ), I really do not like putting my nose in somebody elses business but I just found your gallery only a few days ago and to have it end now would be a very sad experience.
Anyway thank you for answering my questions about the fur and species (actually I feel kinda stupid now that I realize that the name Cougari was both in the picture and discription ) and you are most certainly welcome for the comment! Personally, I am glad that you found what I said to be touching and meaningful.
And as for The Lion King, I definately agree that it is an incredible and very inspiring film, which, to me, ranks as one of the best animated movies ever made (a fierce rival to Watership Down in my opinion ) Anyway, enough rambling from me
.

Take care and as always BEST of wishes to you!

Never heard of Watership Down eh? Well now I must tell ya about it Unfortunately the animation is rather dated (1978) but it still has a very powerful mature storyline dealling with leadership, death, hardship, and rabbits... lots of rabbits. In fact it was one of the first animated films that really touched me (along with The Secret of NIMH, and of course The Lion King). Thw book is great too! If you are interested, the internet movie database has a small synopsis [link] .
Oh, and best of wishes to you too!
