Description
ah yes, the submit button, I had almost forgotten what it feels like to press. okay, so here we have my take on a famous painting by the surrealist Max Ernst called "l'ange du foyer' ,which translates to 'fireside angel'. the assignment was to reproduce a chosen work and freehand it, allowing us to add our own little touches to the painting and make it uniquely theirs (which i hope i've accomplished). the painting itself is about man's inhumanity towards his fellow man... it was painted during world war two in reaction to a massacre of a spanish village by the germans. man does some fucked up shit, no doubt... the monster here symbolizes that, in all of its beautiful destructive terror. this was painted with oils on a 16 x 20 canvas board (blech, ...worst...surface....e-ver.) yes, i know theres a few rough parts and little mistakes... i had to paint most of the background at like 4 in the morning the day it was due. perhaps i'll go back and correct it if i get the time. also, i appologize for the bit of scan line that you can see in the middle, but the piece was bigger than the scanner and i had to piece it together in photoshop.Related content

hΓ©hΓ©, l'ange du foyer or 'le triomphe du surrΓ©alisme". A funny way to copy the great Ernst.
All this inhumanity with such bright colors and almost 'humor'
you made a good copy, is it oil too?

Amazing. You did good.
Just so you know, you can cover the scanned section lines by zooming in really close on photoshop and carefully using the clone stamp tool to gather samples from either side if the line to put over it. It takes some practice and a lot of changing where your samples come from but it works.

wow. I have not seen the origional, but I really like the way you painted this. I have not looked at your artwork for awhile, but I see definite improvement. You have great modeling, and movement. He really looks likes he is stepping above the ground, ready to crash his foot. Even the clouds seem somewhat aggressive, in a clam chilled cloud way.
ah. and it makes me think of Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegurt.

I think this piece is beautiful. Paintings have more character when they aren't completely perfect. The colors blend very well. +Fav for your obvious hard work.

*applauds* The classes progress definetly shows in this painting. I love the colors you've chosen to use in your re-creation of an awsome painting. I like the white head, for what ever reason. It's very clear, and distinguished from the rest. I can definetly see your style in the monsters hands, in the shoe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but is that a little mountain on the horizon? Very cool overall, you did a very good job, the detail is awsome. The sky is very well done IMO, the realisticness of the clouds show, which from my experience, is not an easy thing to draw. The shadding on the various parts of the monster is VERY well done, most noteably on the pink cloth in the crotchal area, as well as the monster's left leg, and wings/arms. This is definetly a piece to be proud of, and I'm proud to put it on my favorites. Can't wait to see your other paintings dude! Glad to see you postin something so awsome.
