Is birth the first day of your life,
or the first day of your death???
I like the idea of things being cyclical...
made with super sculpey

I had trouble deciding on the title. I went through a few;
- Suffer the little children to come unto Me
- Gently Weeps (Beatles reference...)
- Cain and Abel
I decided on calling it "Infected" as a reference to a term I hear being used quite often in science fiction movies to describe non-humans or the diseased. Although either of those Biblical titles would have been great too.

I usually try and say WHY I like something when I fave it. This is super original. I love how it's kinda creepy/grungy looking and I love the subject matter. Did it get selected for Spectrum 16? I've been an avid collector of those books for years, I have them all. Wonderful collection, I sincerely hope to see your work in there someday.

Wow, thanks!
Sadly this wasn't accepted into Spectrum 16. I'm not sure if it was result
them not liking the piece, or if it was because the image I sent was too
small, or maybe because if never arrived on time...anyway my point is
I wish I could've known the reason. However I did get accepted into
Spectrum 17. If you've got that copy mine is the sculpture entitled 'The Martyr'.
It was my take on Humpty Dumpty....the piece is also in my gallery if you're
interested.
I'm actually working on a sequel to this piece at this moment.
I'm hoping it'll be as memorable as this piece...
I'll also be submitting it this year into Spectrum...
....and I'm aiming for that Gold Award...haha
Thanks again for the favourite!

I've been following the Spectrum books since I discovered issue 7 in high school, though I've caught up on all of them. It's a shame they don't tell you why you weren't accepted, that might at least make your chances better for next year. Sounds like they took the money and ran. One day, maybe next year, I'll submit something. I don't think I'm good enough yet, though I've been studying anatomy and perspective pretty hardcore lately and I think it shows in my more recent sketches. I've been inspired by a few other artist friends of mine to start putting more emotion in my work like I used to, rather than just, "Eh, cute pin up." I'd also need a cooler concept than just a pin up, something more original and thought provoking or quirky, and I think I have a few good ideas for that too...
I did see Martyr in 17. When I first saw it, I thought it was weird that he had no face. I thought the artist might be lazy, or didn't know how to sculpt faces (but had no problem sculpting the male body!). Then I thought maybe it wass supposed to be a reference to a man who didn't know who he was. Then I read the title and realized it was supposed to be Humpty Dumpty and it all made perfect sense. Why didn't you make him sitting on a wall, if you don't mind my asking? Or with a crack in his head and egg yolk coming out? That might have made the Humpty Dumpty reference a bit more obvious... maybe more obvious than what you wanted. Forgive my ramblings.
I can't wait to see what you do as a sequel to Iinfect. Is it another two fetus style thing? A baby fetus ouroboros would rock. The skeleton swallowing the legs of the fleshy baby and the fleshy baby eating the bones of the skeleton baby in a semi-circle thing. The bony baby can have something coming out of it's torso... a snake binding them together. A noose. A little warm glowing orange light. Make that a nightlight. You could do a series..... I dunno, I have a lot of ideas lately, I don't know how big you make these things or what's possible. I'm a 2D artist, I don't know anything about sculpture and I'm no good at it.
But I did doodle a pretty cool fetus ouroboros with a gas mask I'm gonna tattoo on my elbow one day. (If you're interested [link]
I saw Your Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum sculpture too, that's amazing. I love the details, the veins running down the leg and the twisted positions. Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite stories, since I was a little girl. I have a tattoo sleeve started of my version of the characters... it's been a work in progress for around 4 years now. (When you work 60-70 hours a week in a tattoo shop, you don't want to stay on your own time and get tattooed.) Anyway, I really look forward to seeing what else you do in your Wonderland series. I love seeing different people's versions of the characters, especially when the characters are creepy.
Hope the week finds you relaxed and creative...

I signed up for dA just so I could comment on this peice of artwork. There are some very shocking images in this sculpture, all of which I am sure ou're aware of. The shock is what caught my attention. Your sculpture represents more than what you've put in your description.

I certainly didn't want to have this be a passive experience.
I wanted to create imagery that would stay with people...
...be unforgettable....that's always my goal.
I'm glad it was enough to cause you to join and comment.
That's never happened before, and I feel quite honoured
that you would go through all that trouble...
