This and the other tutorial you commented on are incredibly outdated, though I would still recommend this tutorial since it is still a viable method in MSPaint.

how to do that color swap thing
or to open a second copy of something, it won't let me for some reason~

Color swap: using the eyedropper tool, select the color you want to change with a left click of the tool.
Grab the tool again, this time, right-click the color that you want to change the original color to.
Using the eraser tool, RIGHT-CLICK while using the tool. It will only change the original color you want.
Second copy: simply grab the area with the rectangle tool, and copy+paste it into your window.
