Description
This was taken at the Huntington Library almost four years ago--before they closed down one of the buildings and it got expensive. I was going through photos, eliminating the unnecessary ones (of which there were a lot--I was a little camera happy a year or two back) and this... just made me happy. I'm too young to be so nostalgic. I'm on the right, and on the left is my best friend, who in her time has been known as Neko, Niko, Nicole, Nicky, and NJ.Related content

I love Huntington Library. They have a million different gardens... well, probably more like six, but still! Another place I have to visit before I move. Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you like it.

Yea, you know what I mean. You want to regress back into your girlish fantasies about being a wood nymph or something.

It was one of the rare times I felt underdressed. Cause she had her trenchcoat--the look going on--and her mom was wearing a dress, and I was in a huge sweatshirt and baggy pants.

Yeah but how would you know? And i always thought it was better to be underdressed than overdressed. Like this one time, it was my cousin Ana Maria's 16th birthday and my mom made me dress up all nice and stuff. I was 14. So we go to her house and i'm the only one who's dressed like a nerd, everyone's casual. And there were like 15 million 16 year old girls there. And my 2 cousins were there...they hit puberty before i did so they were taller than me obviously, no one called them "m'am" on the phone and girls were into them. Not the chubby nerdy 3 feet tall kid standing right next to them. For a minute there i thought i'd drank the formula and gone invisible. God those were a rough couple years, being the only one among my friends without pubes and man voices. Now i'm taller than everyone so there are some compensations i guess.

I hate the pudgy awkward stage! I had that too! The horrible thing was, I grew up with my cousin, Annie, and she had it early, grew out of it quickly, and became beautiful just as I stopped being cute. Ugh.
Those middle school/puberty years sucked for everybody. When I was twelve, I went to an orthodontist. They discovered I had a slight overbite. So, all of seventh grade, I had to wear this thing called the bionator. It was one retainer, for both upper and lower teeth. And when I wore it, I had to clench my jaws together, and talk THROUGH MY TEETH. All year, at school. I'd have to take it out to read alound in class. *Shudder* It was gross and I sounded creepy, and I'm sure people made fun of me. Thank god I was oblivious.
That happened to my dad and both brothers--they were 'the short kid' until around 14, then they just shot up (heroin, ha ha). My dad and older brother were 6'3 and my middle brother is 6'5. It's like revenge, I guess.
I get 'sir' a lot on the phone.

Jesus fucking christ! The BIONATOR?! You had to wear something called the BIONATOR?!?!?! I had it easy then!
I did hit puberty when i was 16. My friends were living in retiring homes when i hit puberty.

Doesn't it sound like some evil super-villian? Thinking about it grosses me out. That and the entire orthodontic experience.
I was fairly boy crazy freshman year. Only I always chose the weird ones who had big chins (and egos), or looked like TV weathermen.

I can't figure out why a person would want to be a dentist. Really.
And what does a TV weatherman look like?

ACK! (That's a Bloom County reference which YOU SHOULD understand)
Is that used car-salesman or used-car salesman?

A used-car salesman who wanted so badly to be taken advantage of. But not by me.

He had aspirations of being 'popular' which made him fall into that pseudo popular crowd that's way more arrogant than the actual popular people are. I never knew who the actual in crowd was, but I always knew who the wannabe in crowd was. Ha ha, I guess you could say that's where the crush ended.

I can't even explain the kinda reddish glow that's happening above. Probably a camera glitch, but an awesome one. I love this picture. And even after the full view, we're both still kinda shadowy--but at least you know we're people.

Thanks! It's one of those places that makes you want to go out, and buy a wispy prom dress just so when you wander around, you fit in better.
