Description
This is a subscription only feature. It won't work if you don't have a sub, I'm sorry. This is for anyone interested in uploading their art to dA without needing an ftp client. This was done with Windows XP. For Vista simply go to "Network" then "Network and Sharing Center" then click "Set up a connection or network". From there it should work about the same. If "Network" doesn't show in your start menu, right click on the start button, choose "properties", click on the "Notification Area" tab and check the box that says "Network".
Note: If you use Vista, you can open a window, such as "Networks" and type ftp.deviantart.com in the address bar, as well. This tutorial will get you handy start menu access to your deviantArt ftp folder.
I hope this is helpful for at least one person! I find it a lot easier than dealing with ftp clients.
OMG! A DD!!! Thank you so much `shelldevil for suggesting it and ^FantasyStock for awarding it!!!

"Could not login to the FTP server with the user name and password specified."
Yes, I have a premium account...for a few more weeks, anyway.
Yes, I entered the correct username and password.
No, I'm not using XP.
I have Windows 7, and to set the whole thing up I opened "My Computer," right-clicked in the window and selected "Add Network Location" (identical to XP's "Add Network Place," or so I believe), and followed the tutorial from there.
Great tutorial, I'm just trying to figure out why it won't let me log in....

You go to your computer, right click and select Add Network Location and then continue from step 7. Notice that the logging in is done after you have set up the folder.

By the way, for Vista users, if you go to "My Computer", right click on an empty space and click the "Add a Network Place", you can follow the same steps in the tutorial.
Anyways, congratz on the DD!!!

Thank you!
I forgot to mention that it's for subscribers only. I've rectified that, but I'm sorry for the oversight.

Awwww...
Was wondering why that wasn't working...
It's all cool, I just need to scrounge up the cash for a subscription.

so does this work for nonpremium members? (the whole mass uploading thing?)
cuz i remember seeing that the mass uploading was for premium members only. is this like a work around for that? or just something easier for those who can? (sorry just wondering.. cuz i'm trying it and it's not working.)

I'm sorry, yeah, it is just for premium members. I don't know of any way to make it quicker if you don't have a sub.

I did not know dA had FTP; that'd be extremely useful for me. And this is clear enough to translate into Linux.
But I get authentication failures when I try it. Could be that I'm in Linux, but it's giving me the right windows whether I do it in Firefox or Ubuntu's "Connect to Server...". I get a prompt for my username and password and it doesn't take them (530 error). I'll try it in Windows later, though I'm personally blaming my 3G USB modem as it might block FTP logins.

Thank you! You have to have a sub to use the ftp feature, though.

fff. Well, more incentive to get a sub. I understand why, though--FTP servers fill up quickly.

It is worth it for a sub if you upload a lot of stuff. It's only around $8 for 3 months, which isn't bad, at all. There's always little events and contests all over the place where you can win subs, as well. I've had this account subbed on contests alone for over a year now.

With deviantArt you need to have a subscription.

nice tutorial....easy enough to follow. Is this is subscription only feature? If so, I think you should mention that in the artist's comments or on the image itself.
Just a thought.
Congrats on the DD
