And I'm trying my best to be tough
To pretend I am strong and can siphon it off

Character

Name: Crowkit | Crowpaw | Crowtint
[Crow] - Even as a kit, Crowtint's harsh voice was extremely recognizable, similar to the striking call of a crow.
        [tint] - The colour and texture of his thin fur are also reminiscent of a crows's own spiky feathers.
Clan: ShadowClan
Age: 59 moons
Rank: Warrior
Gender: Male
Appearance details: A lanky Lykoi-breed tom with no fur covering his face and lower legs. Various shades of black fur interrupted with a white underbelly, the same white peppering along his whole coat. A huge scar across his face contorts his expression into a permanent snarl with a missing eye.

This is not who I want you to see

It's just adding on weight to the darkness in me

History

|| Chapter 1: Normalcy ||
0-12 Moons (Kithood and Apprenticeship)

Crowkit's parents were both originally from outside of ShadowClan, a kittypet and a loner, though both had settled into clan life long before Crowkit was born. His mother, Barenose, passed along her strange (Lykoi) missing patches of fur to him, his looks almost identical to hers despite his father's thick pelt. He was born with two other littermates, who were unnamed, passing in the harsh winter night they were born under. His kithood was spent with several other litters of kits, and though he was not lonely, he did tend to keep to himself and defended his space with a sharp tongue and bite to follow. Despite his reservation though, he did posses quite the loud, abrasive voice, and was sure to catch attention whenever he did want it.

Crowkit became Crowpaw along several other kits of another litter, Sleekstar assigning a she-cat named Copperstream as his mentor. Copperstream was a gentle warrior, on her way to the elder's den, as well as a friend of Barenose's. Crowpaw had developed a bit of a spikey attitude in his kithood, though Copperstream showed a patience with it most other mentors would not have. He quickly showed an interest as well as proficiency in hunting, and Copperstream, who was no fan of fighting either, encouraged his eagerness to hunt. "The Clan has enough hot-headed mousebrains," Copperstream would always say in jest, and Crowpaw allowed himself a bit of pride in being unlike the others- something that had bothered him in kithood. During this time he trained with, and befriended, Acornpaw and Lavenderpaw, who were both much more boisterous and high energy than he, and he tended to show his fangs to them more than once, though neither took it to heart, and he certainly didn't mean it- he was glad to have them around regardless. His apprenticeship passed without much incident, though towards his final moons of his training Copperstream and him seemed closer to friends than a mentor and apprentice.

|| Chapter 2: Shock ||
12-30 moons (Before Attack)

Crowtint remained a steady friend with both Barenose and Copperstream, who had both retired to the elder's den a few moons into his time as a warrior. He also remained close to his apprentice friends, now Acornspring and Lavenderfern, though made little other friends due to his prickly disposition, and he didn't mind, two other's to bother him was just fine. A distant friend, Whitetrack, took on an apprentice at this time as well, named Ashpaw. Patrols with Whitetrack were frequent, which means patrols with his spunky apprentice were as well. Crowtint found his eyes catching on her as she neared her warriorhood- though quickly dismissed anything- he was a cycle of seasons older, and had to act it of the two. When the last few moons had passed and Ashpaw became Ashrose, those patrols together became even more frequent, and without a protective Whitetrack as well- not that Crowtint had any ill intentions. Crowtint enjoyed his time together with Ashrose greatly, and fond feelings began to take a hold of the toms heart, though he took great care to not come off as such. She was happy and fiery and friendly in every way he was not, and as they continued on in this way- his complementing thoughts towards her would only grow.

Abruptly, though, Ashrose went on more patrols by herself, or at least simply without him- and the distance between them grew as fast as it had closed previously. He wasn't sure what was the cause, if it was his doing or not, but Crowtint was not one to pry, and he knew he had no right to, so he let her go her own way without protest, respecting her wishes despite the heartache he desperately tried to pretend wasn't there.

At this time, a fox had decided to try to settle on ShadowClan territory. Cats were forbidden to leave the camp alone, and patrols to keep an eye on the fox were common. Crowtint himself had not seen much of it, only smelled, but followed orders regardless, not keen to come toe to toe with one by himself. It was while Crowtint was on a hunting patrol that the fox finally actively attacked the cats, ambushing his patrol. The group had little warning, and Crowtint was caught in the jaws of the fox, claws and teeth tearing through skin, before Crowtint lost consciousness. Crowtint awoke fully a few days later, barely able to move his face, even if he wanted to past the thick coating of cobwebs and herbs against his skin and the constant burn of the air. He was determined to make it- but there were times where he wasn't sure if he'd pull though, and the first few days of his healing were spent in and out of consciousness, with hazy memory of visits from Barenose and Copperstream, as well as his few friends. When he was finally able to look at himself, his appearance came as no surprise, though shocked him nonetheless- no cat wouldn't be phased by gazing upon half their face being torn away to reveal an empty eye socket. It took well over a moon for Crowtint to finally heal fully, though the loss of an eye meant a loss of half his vision, and he was forced to relearn how to both hunt and fight properly, and Copperstream even helped to the best of her abilities to teach him how to avoid hits and find prey once more. It took another few moons for Crowtint to finally be satisfied with his training, able to hold his own against any warrior in both battle and hunting skill.

|| Chapter 3: Denial ||

30-47 moons (After Attack)

Ashrose remained distant, though now, Crowtint could not blame her after what had happened to himself. Over the moons he no longer grew sad at her sight, simply accepting how things were. He could not stop his eyes from still training on her white pelt from time to time though, and allowed himself such indulgences.

In time, Lavenderfern had a litter, consisting of one kit, obviously Acornspring's, as he would not leave her or her kit's side as long as he could help it. Crowtint visited out of politeness and curiosity once, and instantly became enamored with the small, very furless, kit. He visited frequently afterwards, becoming a sort of an uncle to Bluekit, and tended to spoil her as much as her parents did. He had even gotten the idea in his head that he would mentor Bluekit himself, and grew even more protective of the she-cat. This was not to be though, as she ended up becoming Fawndream, the medicine cat's, apprentice. He admittedly, held a bit of a grudge, even if he knew it was a safer role for the she-cat. He would get over it in time.

Crowtint had definitely had his hopes up to mentor Bluepaw, but even he couldn't turn a blind eye and cold shoulder to young Wildpaw when he was offered him as an apprentice by Sleekstar- life changed forever by an attack that left the tom missing part of himself. It wasn't hard to see the similarities. He took the apprentice under wing without complaint, though he retained his usual demeanor, and kept a close eye on Bluepaw as well, even if he could not train her. Their disabilities were quite different, but if anycat knew how to work with a missing part of themself, it was Crowtint. The tom, though he'd never admit it, even took the time to go off by himself, practicing movement and possible attacks with one front limb pulled up against his chest, just so he'd have an idea how to teach Wildpaw. Training was long, and grueling, but Crowtint grew fond of his time with his apprentice, and was proud to see him become a full warrior- well deserved after all the work they both had put in.

|| Chapter 4: Anger ||
47-59 moons (Famine and the Journey)

The lake began to dry, and with it the prey died. The famine had started in ShadowClan. It was soon after that Ashrose began to show signs of pregnancy, and Crowtint's heart ached once more, though he showed, nor harbored, no anger. His eyes lingered on her and her actions, as well as those around her, and as her kitting neared, the tom realized that no other was stepping up as the father- whoever it was, they were not part of the picture. The famine worsened as well, though his main concern remained with keeping Ashrose safe, and as healthy and fed as possible during these times. When the sole kit, Strongkit, was born, Crowtint made no attempt to crowd or father it, since it was not his own. He did keep close to Ashrose regardless though, taking as much time as he could to tend to her and keep her from the worst of the death sweeping the Clan.

Copperstream weakened considerably, sickness wracking her bones, and though she recovered, her condition worsening over the last moon before the Clan left for a new home. Barenose was up in her age as well, and decided to stay at the lake when the time came, to try to become a kittypet once more, imploring Copperstream to join her, who agreed. Crowtint struggled to understand their motivations- his Clan being his whole life- and grew bitter that his mom returned to being a kittypet, especially after all the Clan ridicule of having been one in the first place. He swore loyalty to the Clan, and all five Clans left on the Journey for a home.

Having lost his own two family members, he stuck close to Acornspring and Lavenderfern, though spent plenty of time with Ashrose as well, hunting to the best of his ability to keep her and her kit fed, using any and all ounces of energy he had left to help her through the day. Ashrose was worried for her kit, and for that Crowtint worried too, despite not having a personal connection with the young scrap of fur. Then Strongkit was lost, and Ashrose seemed to shatter and shrink before Crowtint's eye. He comforted the other as best he could, wrapping around her on cold nights so that she wouldn't be alone, grooming her when she had no will to tend to herself, and making sure she ate at least something. He was angry, angry at what this had done to Ashrose. How StarClan could've allowed this to happen. To take the light right out of her eyes without a second chance. His anger fueled him though, and lost no drive during the Journey- having to be strong enough for the both of them.

|| Chapter 5: Bargaining  ||

59 Moons - Present (The Fjords)

The finding of the Fjords was a relief to Crowtint, though the death of Sleekstar shook all of ShadowClan- Ashrose though, barely seemed to notice. When camp was settled, Crowtint wandered into his own nest, unsure how to treat things when normalcy was supposedly returning. Ashrose would simply climb in to his nest with him though, and Crowtint, of course, gave no protest, wrapping around her just as protectively as he had while they were still travelling through the mountains. The return of a schedule made for time for recovery though, and Crowtint pushed her to get out of the nest and out on patrols with him, enjoying the clean air and the scent of prey like they had done when they were younger. Crowtint was steady, and he could begin to see signs of healing in the she-cat, much to his own joy as well. After shy confessions, the two became mates- something Crowtint had long forgotten to dream about, but felt just right nonetheless.

Crowtint approved of Sleekstar's choosing of Wolfheart to continue to lead the Clan in his passing, though his high opinion of Wolfheart was quickly shattered as he backed out of leadership. This was only seconded by his disapproval of Beetlefur himself- too young and obviously inexperienced to be fit to lead ShadowClan in Crowtint's opinion, though he was proud of his apprentice Wildfire for getting such a position- even if inexperienced too. His disapproval may have been born from worry from the two younger ones- both for them and for the Clan itself.

Yeah behind everything that I do

I just want to come home and lay down beside you

About

Personality:

+ || Level-headed || Though Crowtint is quick to snap and spit when talking, he is definitely not one to go charging into anything without some thought first. He'd rather sit and watch in most situations, especially clan discussions, and only gets vocal if he has a particularly strong opinion one way or the other. He knows how to read situations and judge his own actions accordingly.

+ || Caring || Contrary to his demeanor and looks, Crowtint isn't as harsh and thoughtlessly hot-blooded as they would lead to believe. He's one for helping the clan more-so than defending it (though he'd never back down from that either) and tends to be rather kind (in small gestures) to Clan-mates of all ages. He's a grump, but he's a grump that cares a lot, even if he's bad at showing it (especially in words).

+ || Protective || Though Crowtint isn't particularly eager for a fight, he's also quick to put himself on the line for another member of the Clan. He'll take on the brunt of an attack if it means others aren't injured as well. If he's close to a cat, this goes for social situations as well, shifting blame to himself or defending the other cats actions fiercely.

> || Sharp Tongued || Crowtint is not one to smooth over his opinion, or word things lightly if he's being bothered. He's quick to snap back at anything he views as too prying, mouse-brained, etc. This habit gets the better of him, even in situations where he doesn't mean to react so harshly.

> || Introverted || Liking time to himself, Crowtint is rarely one to initiate spending time with a clanmate, other than to ask about a patrol, etc. He tends to keep to himself in most situations, simply preferring to watch rather than insert himself into most social situations.

> || Bad at Emotions || Though not exactly a negative trait, just a trait, Crowtint is awful at expressing any emotions other than grump. This makes heart to hearts a rather uncomfortable experience on both sides, even for cats Crowtint might grow particularly close to.

> || Loyal (to a fault) ||
Crowtint is fiercely loyal to his Clan. This trait grew after his mother left to become a kittypet once more, bitter that she turned her back on the Clan. His blind loyalty grew out of defense of being same in the same light, and shows, or harbors, any motives outside of ShadowClan, to avoid comments about turning into a kittypet as well, though he himself had never known the life. Even if ShadowClan is in the wrong, he'd defend the opinion without a second thought.

> || Strict || Crowtint strictly adheres to rules, and expects others to as well. He has little patience for anything otherwise, and this applies especially to any apprentices he might get.

-  || Huge Grump || Crowtint isn't flowery or kind (openly) and tends to be rather prickly, to friends, family and otherwise. He does appreciate his alone-time, and the grouchiness of his personality developed as a kit so he could keep that alone time without being bothered. He's essentially a crotchety old man. He'd rather sit and grouse than be proactive about most problems that arise.

-  || Aggressive to outsiders|| Specifically to cats outside his Clan, Crowtint is not a particularly patient being. It's one of  the few happenstances where his attitude can get the better of him, and he's not one to listen to much reasoning coming from any cat outside his clan, willing to defend his Clan's territory and defend their pride at any means necessary. This doesn't mean he attacks instantly, this just means he won't listen to anything other than agreeing to leave, and will attack if pushed.

-  || Cynical || He's not one to judge harshly initially, but he also doesn't have particularly high hopes for most others. This trait worsens even further if a cat has broken his trust, or the trust of the Clan's. Once a cat lands on his bad side, Crowtint's skepticism and disbelief of a cats motives makes it hard, nearly impossible for a cat to get back into a better light.

Likes: Birds (meat as well as song), rain, sunbeams (to warm self in)
Dislikes: Prying, disloyalty, mice (doesn't like the fuzz)

Relationships

Orientation: Pansexual/panromantic (Feminine lean, but not necessary)
Looking for: Not looking.
Ideal Relationship and Traits: Crowtint needs someone who can brush off his harsh comments and sharp tongue without a problem. Someone who's gentle and friendly in every way he's not basically (he does appreciate these traits even though he doesn't possess them). He's a fan of lighter colour pelts (and secretly thick ones as well. He gets cold- especially during leaf-bare).

Mentor: Copperstream
Apprentice: Wildfire, Hawkpaw
Friends: Acornspring, Lavenderfern
Crush: Ashrose
Mate: Ashrose
Ex-Mate/s:
Kin: Barenose (Mother), (Unnamed Father)

||ThunderClan||

||ShadowClan||

Acornspring  | StruggleMatch | Close Friend
Crowtint has always been outwardly grumpy towards the high-energy tom, though his actions were always brushed off as well in return. He appreciates the tom's good nature, even if his energy can be a bit grating, and of course, always acts as a true friend whenever it really counts.

Ashrose | StruggleMatch | Mate
Crow's long-time object of affections and recent mate. The warrior had been through so much that he does everything in his power to keep her from more harm, as well as keep her on the steady path to regaining her sunshine that he's missed so dearly.

Blueflower  | StruggleMatch | Medicine Cat/Niece (of sorts)
The daughter of his two close friends, and furless as well, Crowtint has a lot of reasons to be fond of the she-cat. He fusses and worries over her still, traits leftover from her kithood, and visits her den frequently, if only to make sure that she's taking proper care of herself as well.

Lavenderfern  | StruggleMatch | Close Friend
Lavenderfern, at times, could have just as much as a mouth as Crowtint, and he found kinship in that trait. He's not as openly harsh to her as he is her mate, enjoying her company even if he's not the best at conversation, and remains loyal to them both.

Roleplay

Excerpt from a roleplay with Cobalt-dogs

Thawslip listened to Speckledstorm’s words with a quiet, controlled silence, her expression unchanging as well, though her focus was entirely on Speckledstorm, looking away only to make sure they were staying on the path and away from any obstacles or edges. The words, though harsh initially, were what Thawslip’s expected, and she appreciated the honestly of the she-cat. Most would’ve sugar-coated and fluffed up their words, if not lied altogether, and though the words were not the best the silver tabby could hear, she was pleased, even happy, with Speckledstorm.

It took a long moment for Thawslip to finally reply, “I suppose that’s all I can ask for.” Her tone remained quiet, thoughtful more than solemn, and brought her gaze back forward, finally. She could feel for her Clan- she felt the same after all, but this would never be something she could speak of, “We have survived being driven away from the Clans, we have sprung up from nothing, and returned,” She looked to the sky for a moment, before bringing her gaze back down, “We will make it through this, even if no other Clan does. If trust is all we can do, I will make it pay off.”
