Description
And suddenly the music stopped, save for one lonely sax; wailing through the darkness like a lost child, drifting in and out of the smoke. Drone. Whisper. Reeling drunkenly, bouncing off shadows. Just when everyone was entranced, beginning to dream, it happened. The sax broke out into an orgasmic series of notes, rough and real, cutting through the room like a mad blizzard of sound and motion. Fever. Frenzy. Fury. Then the rest of the band stepped back in and the spell was broken. The sax man receded and lit a cigarette. ΒRelated content

Wonderful. Feels like the night that inspired me to write The Blues. Great memories!

It's an honor to be mentioned with such a fantastic piece of work as 'The Blues.'

Brilliant piece! It really puts you in the room with all the sights, and sounds... sets the Sax experience to imagery!Β Well done that.

I love listening to the sax, and your poem leads me right there. I'm listening to Coltrane now. I like "Fever. Frenzy.Β Fury" to end the 'dreaming whisper'. A great sax player can do that and I'm happy to be in the audience. This poem makes me happy.Β

You'd think it would be easy to add the category, Prose Poetry; why haven't dA done it long ago?

They used to have a category for transgressive poetry, and yanked it for some reason. I wonder who one would contact about such a thing?

Sexy, sexy. It's nice to be so...connected...to the imagery. The sound, I would imagine, would have been quite beautiful.

wow, Ron, that had to have been a baritone sax.
which is my favorite, however when it comes to
pure lyrical poetry on a sax - Paul Desmond with
his alto sax playing 'Southern Scene'...
well, just listen -Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m-QNzβ¦
[and, Brubeck, as always, has many more than
the normal number of fingers]
great poem! pip

Thanks for the link. A little too controlled for my taste, but the mastery of Desmond and Brubeck is clearly evident. Wasn't it you who introduced me to Bohren and Der Club of Gore? (I think I have the name right...) Anyway, the inspiration for this one came from several places. Thanks, Pip!

By their music in general, by the movie 'Lost Highway,' and probably two or three other things that have already faded now.

Why do you keep saying 'transgresssive poetry?'
To me this make so much sense......the wailing of a sax?
````Is there anything more sublime??????????
Bark In reply to jennystokes [2015-01-14 15:39:12 +0000 UTC]
Because it's not in a traditional form of poetry, even for free verse. Some people don't recognize it as poetry.
No, it's not! Thank you. My favorite poet writes in this style, and his work is listed as POETRY. DA just doesn't have the category for it.
