Description
I am tired, heavy-footed, worn with wear I wear my hairdown long
Cold air blows through windows trying to nip the buds
long gone
I watch the cigarette smoke whip through the air currents
blue-grey
Saddened by the sun's insistence, shining on a day like
this day
I am rust, I am crushed metal, junkyard darkness, graveyard
sunset
I can't remember when I remembered what I'm trying so hard
to forget
Fire in oil drums replace the sun and the screaming and singing's
begun
I can't sing anymore, like Clancy can't, and the noise in my head's a
throb-thrum

The second stanza is brilliant Ron...
Powerful writing, though I do wish you could sleep..

This is really impressive. Every line carries a unique sensory stimulant. The smell of the smoke, the feel of the cold air, the grogginess of sleep deprivation, the cracked voice I imagined when you try to sing. It's brilliant!

asdfghjkl that's amazing.

I love the rhythm with those dangling rhymes, and the imagery is just fantastic, that line up there in particular. Love it.

A fine expression of that feeling, that feeling we know too well, too long.
We who cannot feel the sun.

I like this very much and throb-thrum is perfect! I guess it's just that time of year?.....

That drone in your head reminds me of things I once thought more important than sleep. In my 20's, a nympho ex-GF kept me awake for a year, sometimes thoughts of passion can induce REM sleep in minutes. Your writing never fails to bring life to a host of memories.

I used to just daydream until my body decided it was time to actually fall asleep. But that's just me, I'll admit I'm pretty unusual. Great poem. I love the second to last line the most. I don't know why, I can just feel the heat from the fire and hear the screaming and singing like some demented bonfire. Very very nice! I hope you get some rest soon.

an excellent poem, Ron,
of inventive venting.
have you ever looked into
transcendental meditation?
it puts me to sleep every night.
also, i use a white noise unit
to mask disturbing sounds.

Thanks, man. I get to sleep OK with medication, but it wears off after 4-5 hours. You'd think an old hippie like myself would have tried TM before, but I haven't. I use the low drone of TV voices as white noise.

But if going without sleep is gonna make you write like this, I take back my suggestion.
