When you put your arms around me, I crumble to ashDon’t you know that I’m dead?
The dead have no need for gestures of affection
We’re past all that now
Sure, we can fake a smile when necessary
Even speak of the future
But it’s all lies; we know there’s no future
The time for dreaming is gone
Tonight I’ll go through the motions of making love
Whisper sweet lies in your ear
And tomorrow I’ll get up and go to work
With all the other dead souls

Thank you. I think whatever the inner self is, whether there be a soul or not, can easily die long before the body.

or be allowed to 'hibernate'... [not in
gear, clutch disengaged, quietly idling]
[yes, i use the term 'soul' carelessly
as a sort of poetic substitute for self]
and of course currently - there is no
actual self, it being a construct to
focus on with/by our consciousness.
IMO [so far] my self considers this
a matter of semantics. our entities
exist, yes, as part of the process
of the cosmos [our root cause], but
even though ultimately a creation
of/by the mind, by interaction with
everything, including others, we
justify consideration as 'selves'.

Tomorrow, I will feed the cat, and dance in my mind whether I dance on the macro level or not. I have no one to lie to, no one to play the fake for; my cat only speaks food. I shall pretend to enjoy all of life, and as a result, probably wILl enjoy it in reality.
