Description Sometimes a relaxed stroll with friends can offer nice shooting opportunities. While crossing Piazza Castello, we entered Palazzo Madama just to snoop and the San Lorenzo church appeared, shining in the sunset through the ancient, handcrafted, glasses of the first floor windows... I just couldn't resist

This is a desaturated HDR image, made with three exposures from one shot only.

Full view recommended. Thanks for viewing.

Twenty-second image in my "Turin " series. Please see the complete series .

I really like the unique look, instead of just another picture of this building, this one has character, it has purpose.

It's like looking at the building through the heat of Summer.

or through a "regular" glass with a veil of water flowing
thank you for adding this pic to your collection.

You are so lucky to see all these places... and the way you interpret is great. I like that I can't tell it's HDR.

thank you myrna, your means a lot to me.
my luck is rather to be living in a beautiful city, but i am silly enough not to explore it as deeply as i could...
and about the hdr, i agree with you. i don't like those over-processed images. exaggerating hdr processing can give the image a dreamy look and sometimes it really works, but most of the times it doesn't. here i just needed to bring a ray of light to the lowest floors of the buildings, since only the dome was exposed to the sunset. i already had a dreamy image, due to the irregular thickness of the hand-blown glass i took the shot through

It seems to always be true that we cannot really see the cities we live in. I've tried many time to do photographs of San Francisco and can never capture what I see and feel when I am there.

Nothing like the right light... it's what we are all about, isn't it.

i agree on both both your sentences.
i know i'm going to sound paradoxal, but the right light is one of the main reasons why i often "forget" to bring my camera with me. i've learned that hdr and dri processing, if kept within the right limits, can bring dramatic improvements to an image. now, you can often obtain several exposures from a single raw file, but a real series of different exposures is much better. but it requires a tripod. the tripod requires the will to carry a heavy package on your shoulder. and now, you aren't always in the mood to be the one who comes back home with their back aching...
