The smiling expression of man looked like a weird choice for a grave image (what does he have to smile at?) and definitely resembles one of the dead characters of "Corpse bride" by Tim Burton. But what had initially caught my attention is the broken vase... not a very good omen, actually...
In ancient Etruscan and Roman religion the amphora that contained the ashes of the deceased, if broken, by any reason, was considered a baleful omen. 🥶

The contrast between the two subjects gave me the idea to use a crooked, distorted perspective, as distorted is the shape of the vase. I wonder if the guy is still smiling
