For some reason AI doesn't seem to do so well at painting mosquitos. I tried several other
iterations before finally settling on this one. Even then I had to spend quite a while
touching it up enough to make it presentable. But then I doubt they get many
weirdos like asking for "steampunk mosquito dark fantasy" as a prompt.

The poem came about because one day I was in a strange mood. I looked
out the window. There, lurking menacingly on the screen was what I
assumed to be a crane fly. But the little harmless buggers really
do look like enormous blood suckers. I couldn't help thinking
of the legend of the nigh unto mythologically gigantic
mosquitos "affectionately" dubbed "gallinippers,"
so named for their supposed ability to drain a
victim of a full gallon of blood in one go.

Beware moms! Better hide your children! Lock them safely away, lest a gallinipper
comes to carry them away to their DOOM and drain them dry to fertilize their
eggs. That is also why mosquitos drink blood. They are missing a protein
they get from blood to make their eggs viable. That is also why only
the females drink blood. But you can't blame then for being
ravenous mamas. After all, they are eating for hundreds.
