Description [Soldat der auf den LWS zeigt] "In zwei Stunden glΓ€nzt der wie frisch aus dem Werk! Oder...!"

[Soldier pointing at the LWS] "In two hours it's gonna be shining like fresh from the factory! Or else...!"

1:72 model kit by Dragon, the Landwasserschlepper Prototyp Nr. 2

Another very fine product by Dragon Armour Pro, the LWS is easy to assemble while having extremely sharp detail. The kit comes with special rubber tracks that were a little too long, so I had to cut them up a bit and glue them together again.
This version of the kit comes with a "ferry deck" or pontoon that is meant to be pulled by the LWS, connected to its side.
If you make it waterproof it can actually float, though you have to put some weight into it for it to float at the correct height.

The Landwasserschlepper (Land-water-tug) was made for the projected landing on the british beaches in 1940, Operation Sea Lion. As that was cancelled in favor of Operation Barbarossa (the assault on the soviet union) the few completed LWS served mostly on the eastern front in river crossings. This in particular is a PanzerfΓ€hre IV prototype completed in 1942.

Very very cool and awesome work on this. love that it even comes with a ferry deck. love the scene you were able to set up.

been meaning to get my hands on the 1/35 of one of these, but knowing me and my wishlist, it might be awhile.

Wasn't it called "Panzerfahre IV" instead of LWS ? The LWS looks like a boat a bit...

You are right!

I searched a bit on the web and it seems this is a 1942 prototype really based on Pz IV.

Damn... Well I will keep it as LWS because I have no other model and don't want to build one xD

Great looking model there and I like the weathering on it, interesting fact if it isnt obvious to some: The suspension and basic hull is a converted panzer IV
Hehe after it go for a swim it will look like brand new, no dust or dirt anymore on the hull The APCΒ΄s I tested in the army were very clean after they went for a swim.

Thanks, for the weathering I asked my father for help on how to do that since he was a seaman once so he's got to know.

Yes I noticed that it was Pz IV chassis. Erwin now pointed out that it's not really the LWS but a tank ferry based on PzIV that was constructed in 1942. >.>

Oh really? I based the weathering on ship dirt that would accumulate over time. Maybe your APCs were just more regularly cleaned up?

Well our tanks and APC and everything almost is cleaned very often, not a single stone or dirt is allowed to be on them after the cleaning is done and it takes hours to clean them and I so hated doing that, when one have to do it after each time one uses them. Same about our handweapons.

Ahh xD

Yes cleaning is always important in the army. Makes me wonder if soldiers develop a mania for cleaning after retiring from service xD

Hehe, yes it floats well and if you put some extra work in it I would say you could even make it radiocontrollable (but would take LOTS of effort xD)

Who knows? If they had lauched Sea lion and not Barbarossa...

There was a fake photograph of a Heinrich Himmler school in britain that was made by a british museum to show an alternate scenario. Now I cannot find it anymore.

Great work!
Very like the quality and paint of small parts.

Thanks! Though there aren't so many small parts to paint differently here, only the engine things in the centre and what seems to be poles to measure depth.
