Description I was super bored at work so I ended up drawing this guy.. I liked him so much I decided to color him. Hope you guys like him too! I figured it's about time I added something that isn't a scrap. Tell me what'cha think.

yesyes... it's me again. It is all nice done with color and shadow and stuff... and the hair is plain black... you could add some shining, I think it looks like a shadow... But I love elves... that's why I'm going to fav this one

I've had a lot of people mention adding some slight highlight to his hair, but it was kind of intentional to make his hair kind of a sihlouette..

Pretty good. I really like the effect you have with the hair being solidly black. I would've done that too, except for the reason that i can't color hair, not because I actually would do it for an artistic effect. >_> It's very good, but one thing I notice is that the thumb on the hand on the left is shorter than the one on the right. Is it due to foreshortening? And I hate to sound very picky, since I've only been starting to do this recently(not even in my last deviation that had coloring in it), try doing a greater variance in the lightest lights and darkest darks in the picture. It creates a deeper meaning of perspective. You don't have to though, if your intended effect wasn't for depth. Anyways, I hope this critique actually helped. *Notice dthe Advanced Critique Encouraged* >_>

Hehehe.. Yes, I am always appreciative of a good crit.. Honestly, the hand problem is exactly that.. A problem.. It wasn't my intention to achieve some sort of special foreshortening or anything.. It was an honest mistake.. *lol* It's what happens when I don't block out my characters ahead of time.. Work from the ground - up, y'know? *l* And yeah, a greater contrast between light and dark always helps.. I do have an excuse for why the brights and darks aren't so contrasting, but it's only that.. An excuse.. And excused don't make the artwork any better, now does it? *lol* I've been trying to focus on getting more contrast in my light and shadow, and it always is great to get a reminder of that to keep me on track. ^_- So I thank you!

That rules dude. Love the hand. As for advanced critique: Possibly some more coloring work on the hair. It will give it more life than just dark black. Perhaps some very dark blue highlights?

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus. It was intential for me to use the solid black on the hair for a more stylistic approach, but ah well.. I'm going to have to mess around with that kind of coloring method to find something a touch more socially acceptable. *l*

Man where are all the black elves in LOTR. Like I said before I really like this solid coloring style you got here. You're definately improving of the CG coloring thing. I'd maybe darken the shadows abit but thats just me nitpicking.

Love the design-- this is the first time I've seen an African-style elf. The technique you used with the hair is cool-- it's solid black like a silouhette rather than detailed.

I want to hang out with this guy. He seems nice enough from the way you portrayed him.

Ooooooooooooh! This is awesome! I love the dreadlocks! They give this awesome tatoo-ish feel to the outline of his body. Very nice posture and freely placed hand.
The eye alone has a great "staring off into to space" look which completely the character's attitude.

I like your coloured pics so very much basakward. When I started learning that there where so many wonderful artists online, I use to find lots of images of this style. Looking at one always reminds me of those younger high school days.

Your hands and folds are beautiful. The black hair is very out there. Hmmm... wonder what it would look like with a black (or dark brown) background and white hair?
