All legends are based on the truth. We're not very original creatures.

Okay, so first off I haven’t checked up on deviantart in forever, at least a year or two. Seriously. And here I find that you’ve finished Sundown? And made an epilogue for it? AND STARTED ANOTHER SERIES WITH A CHUBBY STEVE OMFG YES!!!

Secondly, an alphabet sheet? YASS I LIVE FOR RUNES AND OTHER LANGUAGES AND ALPHABETS YES PLEASE!! I love that, and I also like how it’s incomplete like you’re only giving us what the characters know and we’ll have to fill it in if/when we see more, keeping us from knowing a lot but just enough to make us want more. (You’re such a tease )

Thirdly, when I was looking at the alphabet sheet I kinda noticed something. A circle (like on Stevie boy’s wrist) means creation but an incomplete circle with a line going to the centre means destruction (on page 6 when we see the circle structure behind the wall, it’s incomplete and the vines come down into the circle LIKE THE SYMBOL FOR DESTRUCTION). I haven’t seen any comments about it on the page with the sheet so I don’t know if no one’s noticed or they kept silent or they commented it on another page.

Also it matches creation+creation=life, which is also a circle? I know for a fact that it has something to do with the GLOWING CIRCLE on Stevie’s wrist, come on you can’t have a rune/symbol like that and have the same thing that’s LITERALLY GLOWING on a character, let alone the MAIN character. And on page 13 there’s a white light whining from the centre, so what’s the story there? Or does it shine when experiencing an intense emotion? Why does it shine? No one seems to have thought it weird so far but it looks out of place since the only other glowy things are the prosthetic limbs and when people are using magic.

Do the prosthetic limbs have glowing lines cause they use magic to work? I think that makes sense since it has the owner’s own magic colour (the guy using his GREEN magic as an umbrella had a prosthetic glowing GREEN) and isn’t red like redstone. If magic is select in its users and the prosthetics are powered by magic does that mean that some people can’t have prosthetic limbs? Or are those ones powered by redstone and then has red glowy lines?

And does the colour of the magic have to do with anything? Hana says she isn’t as good with “casting storm stuff” as Cass, who has the water rune/symbol on her forehead. Does that mean that magic users have a rune from the alphabet sheet you gave us and does that mean that’s the element they’re best at casting with? Does the skill diminish if they try to cast spells not using their element? And how does that tie in to Steve having the creation/life rune on his wrist? How will that be spoken about, or will it only be seen as normal since magic users seem to be pretty common and not be talked about. Are some elements less common than others? It the element a caster can wield random? Or is it inherited? Is it tied to a biome?

Page 14; Steve says “What have I lost?” Did he lose his memory of the past? Did someone get rid of it? Did he agree to it or was it taken from him? Or was it lost in an accident where he went through massive trauma? And yes Steve, what was it that you lost? Did you remember all of it or did you only get a glimpse?

So I’m kinda wondering what’s happening here? This is separate from Sundown and Rift so I DON’T KNOW THE LORE SO I DON’T KNOW WHY THINGS ARE HAPPENING AND I NEED TO KNOW WHY ARE THINGS THE WAY THEY ARE IN THIS STORY?!!! (I’m not asking why did you make it separate, I’m exclaiming my want to know what the lore is and what has happened in the backstory to get to the current time in the story. Don’t worry I know it’ll be explained in the story eventually.)

This page has ‘The fallen hero’. Anything to do with Herobrine? I like how you’re doing magic in this round, having the person drawing the rune/symbol in the air and then the magic knows to heal the person, that’s cool. Can anyone use magic or no?

And I saw in your description of a page in Sundown that you’re 20?! What?! Can I know your birthday and/or how old were you when you started Rift? Sorry if I’m being a bit rude but I’m really excited right now!

So Beanz, I have no idea when I’ll check up on deviantart again but keep going strong you funky boy you! And sorry for this giant comment I was going through the previous pages and piled it all up an I just had to get it out.

Well this was a treat to wake up to! <3 I really appreciate this!!!

Yeah I finished Sundown a little while ago. I wanted to make something completely new, so readers won't have to read Rift and Sundown before starting Origin! Plus, I wanted to change a lot of the lore and world rules that I no longer like, as well as redesigning the canon characters (I love chubby Steve so much!!)

You're right, the runs sheet will be filled out more and more as the comic progresses. Obviously a lot of the lore stuff will be revealed through the comic but:

- Magic in this world comes from the Same source as Sundown's magic; energy from the void filtered through a Core.
- Prosthetics and other magical attachments require a person's magic to keep working, specifically the "movement" rune.
- Anyone can learn to use this power, but some people are more adept at certain things than others. Hana's specialty is the "fire" and "movement" and their associated runes, while Cassandra is good at the "downpour" and "storm" runes. You are most adept at the runes that fit your personality! (Spoilers: Steve is good at "shield"!)
- The runes are part of the language of the Gods, which is mostly lost in ruins and old outposts like the Origin. Hana is one of the best in her field as she has explored many of these places and discovered their secrets.
- Hana figured out how to animate prosthetic limbs and has been teaching that skill to others.
- Other types of magic exist too!

I won't say any more because spoilers, but I hope that's interesting!! <3

Yeah I'm 20! My birthday is Christmas Day, and I would have been around 14 when I first started Rift. I actually distinctly remember sitting at my old horrendously slow PC watching the rain outside and deciding to draw page one!

Thanks again for the super long comment that was wonderful to read!! <3

Steve's blunt questions provide some nice comic relief. Humor is needed after a few intense pages XD

"They used to read it to the kids in the village I live near"
I'm probably looking too deep into this, but it intrigues me that Steve didn't say something along the lines of "I used to hear about this story as a kid," especially assuming that this legend is old enough to be told through generations.
So I think Steve has amnesia and can't remember his childhood, or he never had a childhood because he was spawned/created as a fully grown person.
hhhhmmmm

The art of the children's book is interesting and definitely gives me the vibe of a classic old tale! I love the art style. One advantage of drawing a Minecraft comic over writing a Minecraft fanfic is that you get to use visuals to enhance the story, and this is an awesome way to do so

Great work!

I have feeling that it connects to the shadows that Hero controlled in the prequel.

The Origin kinda looks like a portal of some sorts... though, if it is, a portal to where? And why is it broken?

A nighttime guardian pyromaniac who commands the mobs? So... Steve, right? Def Steve. Nobody we know could possibly meet that definition.

Who knew that all this time we just had to go into a tall building in town to see the Origin, lmfao. Joking aside, I like how they're called a "Nighttime Guardian" even though they're illustrated as something bad. (I bet we can guess who it is.) Makes you think about that whole perspective thing.

The book looked so nice, poor kids tho. But I guess it is for the best.

Hopefully Steven will agree after thinking of the facts again.

Ooooh things are heating up
So... what relation does this story have to Sundown? Is this like their beginnings? (I’m guessing it is but I’m easily confused)

BaserBeanz In reply to Mirrorbrine [2019-05-20 12:30:08 +0000 UTC]

This is a totally new story, and has nothing to do with Sundown. The reason for that is that I want people who haven't read sundown to be able to enjoy this story c:

Legends are based in truth.
They're the stories that everyone tell, again and again, ever changing and yet ever the same.
They speak of events of old, of past forgotten, and of futur dreamed.
They remind us of lessons that we once have learned.

Legends have truth in them, covered in childish lies.
Don't underestimated the worth of the ancient tales.
