What if Gala were a tiling wm? This is how I envision window/workspace management to work together.SVG attached, but be careful, the shadows make it really laggy, especially when zoomed in.

What an interesting concept. I think this could work; for instance, I rarely use in GNOME Shell the close button itself, I just go to the Overview and close the apps from there.

wow, when you told me tiling wm I thought it would look like crap and loose all of its style. This looks amazing. I want it!

I remember that Dan agreed to a tiling wm, but how intuitive would a it be for non-techy users?

Damn you, I have a couple of drawings almost identical to this from a while back.
IMO this should be what window controls are like, the window controls and titlebar should either be integrated as in mobile apps or as you've done it here, where they only show in this overview mode. Forgot wasting screen royalty on mostly empty and vain space.
