I sculpt them in paperclay then make molds in silicon and cast the final pieces in resin. :3 glad you like them!

the paperclay is pretty cheap, it's about $5-6 a bag, and I think for a mini like Machina I used three bags? The nice thing about paper clay is if you keep the bits you carve and sand off clean in their own bag you can add water to them and re-use it as clay(though it works best as a filler at that point). You can also make the dolls out of super sculpey which is about $8-10 a box. Casting the doll is a step you only have to do if you really want to.

Try looking up Noah's Doll House on google, she's got a sort of tutorial that's really good. :3 If you have questions I'll try to help as best I can. I do intend to make a book of my process, but I haven't had time to really sit down and do it.

I have admired your dolls for a long time. I would love to see how you make them or something so maybe one day I could get off my heiny and *try* to make one. How did you learn how to make these dolls? Are there any good books on how?

I've got some tutorials and examples of what the dolls look like in progress in my DA account, but there aren't any books in english about how to make them. Noah's Doll Gallery has a good tutorial on building them and Dan Perez studios has some good casting tutorials. At some point I want to sit down and write a how to guide, but i haven't had time lately. :/

I'll have to look at your tutorials and whatever else available. You make it look so cool. I hope I can find a good tutorial on materials I can find easily and cheaply to start. I'm sure whatever book you put out there on this will be excellent.

good materials are super sculpey- which you bake, Apoxy Sculpt- two parts mixed and air dry, or Paperclay- that's what I use, it's air dry but it's not very strong. They're all about the same price per brick. :3

Just out of curiosity, how tall are the Machina girl dolls? I would love to buy one as soon as I get paid a few times and can save up that much money. (I'd have had it already, but, you know, Botcon.)

She's 44 cm tall. :3 Right now all we have are pink and lavender left. I'm not sure when the next run will be since there are other dolls in the casting schedule in from of them!
I'm excited your going to get one! You'll have to send me pictures when you do!

Really?! Awesome, she'll go perfectly with the Mini I am getting for my birthday, heightwise! And I wanted lavender or blue anyway, so if lavender is what is left, it's what I'll get when I get all the cash together. Thank you so very much!
Don't worry, I'll be putting many photos up both here and on DoA.

I would love a Gamma. Would make him a humanoid version of my favorite Autobot, Jazz.

I make them from Paperclay originals then cast them in resin. :3 If you go through my scraps and WIP folder you'll see them take shape!
