Description
Here's the first cast. I've modded his nose and eyes with sanding and added his face lines. :3 I think he's freaking adorable! XD I need to get some blank blue glass eyes for him eventually.The second cast was white, but it didn't work out so well. :S For some reason it warped a little and the head cap didn't fit! I need to be more careful when i band them together for casting.

They're made of resin, a type of plastic. :3 It's a nice quality plastic than like say, barbie doll plastic, but you can drill into it, sand it, carve it, paint it, then remove the paint and re-paint it. :3 it's really neat stuff!

What the...? Really? Where do you get it? Is it something you can buy at a craft store or something that you have to special order or something?? Cuz I've always wanted to make like what you're doing, but never found the material I could easily work with.

You have to order the type I use. You can get a kit from smoothon.com called a "Super Sampler Kit" that comes with a pint of resin and a pint of silicone. The originals I sculpt in paperclay, then I make the mold and pour in the resin. :3 I suggest doing something really small first, then working up to something larger. They send you instructions and there are several tutorials on the net. Jewelry making books also have really good explanation for starting mold making. :3

I made one head and I'm making all the doohickies that go on them to make different character's heads. X3 The nose is left wide on the original(this one is modded) so that you can make it smaller if you want. :3 [link] here's a list of all the parts and all the transformers you can potentially make from them!

I honestly don't know what possessed me to do this beyond, "OMG IT WOULD BE SO CUTE!" XD;;; my goal is to get at least Sides and Soundwave cast to take home with me over christmas. Hopefully there will be snow in Illinois. If nothing else I can throw them into the christmas tree. XD

thank you! :3 I recomend the "You can draw transformers" book... it's awesome. I'm also a LOT better at sculpting than I am at drawing... it's really hard for me to get proportions right in 2d. XD

No worries! This is the first cast from the mold I made from the paperclay original. He's cast using alumilite black resin. :3

He can just sit there and laugh at me while my thumbs and index fingers keep sliding off, I guess. There's not a lot that's more humiliating than getting called a failure by a disembodied head.
