maryamdn.deviantart.com/ tagged me!
1. Where would you like to travel to? Why?
I'd love to go to Seoul to visit my great-aunt and extended family, but i want my mom to go with me, so I'm not sure it's financially in the near future.
2. Name a small pleasure. Something small that makes you really happy! Like putting on microwaved warm socks on cold days XD!!!!
Constant Comment tea. I actually buy it in bulk now.
3. What’s your most favorite thing about your dolls? [or another art form if you’re not a doll person]
I think my favorite thing is that they exist at all. They're such an odd idea, I was so surprised and excited the first time my friend showed me them.
4. What’s the weirdest question a stranger has asked you?
Probably the first time someone just blatantly asked my mom and I what we were. they meant our ethnicity, but up until that point I never thought our ethnicity was in question and I felt like a space alien.
5. Name 1 thing that you feel makes you unique! [yes I know it’s cheesy ^-^!]
I have ridiculously strong fingernails.
6. If you could have one other art related talent, assuming you’d have no limitations (space, money, tools, etc…) what would it be?
I wish I was a better painter. :/ I'm kind of bad at it.
7. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
If teleporters existed so I could go see my folks whenever, I'd want to live in Tochigi, Japan. My best friend lives there now and I just really liked it there. It's quiet and clean and laid back. Everyone was pretty friendly and you can catch the train to tokyo for $20 round trip.
8. If you had 1 day left, and one project to finish, what would it be?
One day on earth? Screw the project, I want to see my family. XD But if I could finish one project right now it'd be my comic.
9. If I told you is was okay to steal, what item would you steal? (just one, and it can’t be robbing a bank, it has to be 1 item that’s not for the purpose of resale)
Man, I don't know. Other than maybe a gallon of silicone because I'm out and I'd love to have some more but I can't afford it right now!
10. If you had to choose a place and time in history aside from now to live in, where and when would it be? Why?
I'd go back to the early 1990's, punch my fifth grade teacher in the ovaries, and then go invest all the technology companies that sprang up before the dot-com collapse.

Think bigger. Steal a silicone factory! Then you can sell the excess silicone and have extra money to invest in all those tech companies. ^_^
I hope it works out for you to go see your family soon. It sucks when they live far away.

Yeah, they live in the midwest but I'm in california, so it's a pretty pricy plane ticket already. :/ I see them for about two weeks every year and that's just not enough!

Wow... yeah. I was just looking at tickets to see if I could afford to go to VolksUSA before it closed. That's a no-go.
I know that feeling, too. I'm in the north and my grandparents live down south. We usually road-trip it down I-75, so I only get to see them part of the week. (Though... I can't really say I regret it, the road-trip part is usually pretty fun.)

I used to live not too far from the store about three years ago. I'm sad that the next time I'll be in LA I won't be able to go!

aww, thanks! It's really satisfying to make your own doll... but yeah, it's so expensive. I've tried a lot of things to cut down on cost and waste, but it's just an expensive process period. :/

i bet i've only just sculpted the head, it's not even exactly what i had in mind, but i still cant wait to have it cast
i feel like threes more bonding this way.
i was reading your blog on how to make BJDs... it's really helpful.
is it okay if i ask you something? when you're choosing the resin, are you going with the 70 to 80 hardness? i'm still trying to figure out the resin types, i'm sucha noobe at this and i cant find any info on what hardens i need for a BJD
i looove your st George those massive eyes just look so wonderful! it just makes me want to pet him and squeeze him O.O know what i mean <.< or did that just sound weird?

I'm not sure what the hardness rating is on it, but generally smooth-on's smooth cast 300 are a good hardness for dolls. You can use a little bit more yellow(hardner) in ratio to the clear to make it a little harder as well. But the more hardener you use the more brittle it becomes. Polytek is also a good brand. They make a great UV stabilizer that was originally formulated to make resin harder, so it's a good choice.
Allumilite is too soft, unfortunately. It's a great resin, but i find it to warp under tension. It's good for junk casts intended for refinement tho, since it's easier to carve and sand.
I've been using Smooth On's Task 9, which is super hard and durable but it requires a pressure pot for setting up since it foams. :/
Glad you like St. George! <3 <3

O.o oooh i couldn't do pressure pot right now, my budget is pretty limited. hmm, well the casting wont be happening here, i'm going abroad and hoping to get the resin there. my supplier [or at least my cousin's supplier since i'm exploiting him for doll casting labour ] says that he needs to know what hardness we need before he orders it for us <.<, which came as a surprise cuz none of the artists talk about the hardness of the resin, just the brand. that's a good tip about the yellow though! i'll keep that in mind
thanks. i hope it wont be too many trial and errors before we get it right.

The MSDS sheets for smooth cast and task 9 should be on Smoothon's website. The hardness and tinsel strength should be on there, so you can get an idea of what hardness to order. :3
